The polar vortex that has brought mega cold temperatures to whole of Alberta has also resulted in this beautiful solar phenomenon.

That’s pretty cool (no pun intended)! I‘ve seen pictures of those in Antarctica books - must be pretty cold up there. Thanks for sharing.
 
That's a fine example of a sun halo. I've only seen one like it once. Great capture!

For those interested, M. Minnaert's book "The Nature of Light and Color in the Open Air" is a classic. Published in 1954, it is still available at Amazon.
