Teaser - Z7 II and Z6 II (Oct 14th)

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Same here, Steve, about the grip. I will get the Z6II because of the vertical grip. My hand cramps very badly when I hold the camera vertically for my sports shooting, particularly with the longer and heavy lenses attached. I need that new grip because of the AF-on and shutter release buttons. Kinda expensive to pay so much for a button, but it's just the price of staying current.
While my hand doesn't cramp, I do find holding the camera vertically w/o a grip to be uncomfortable. I often have a long lens attached and frequently have to wait awhile for for the shot. I missed the grip with the Z6/7, glad the MKIIs will have it :)

It's not pretty, but the Nikon battery pack designed for the Z6/Z7 bodies does help with balance and shooting comfort. While I definitely wish for vertical controls, it makes my Z6 far more useable with my 200-400VR, which is front heavy. I purchased it this summer, but I know that the double battery compartment will enhance my ability to use the body during the winter, especially of those frigid MN mornings. With all of that aside, if the Z6II/Z7II has the capacity to take a full-function grip AND has the AF-c improvements we are all hoping for, I'll sell one Z6 and replace it with the new model when NPS pre-ordering is made available.

Yeah, with the new Z6/7II coming, I think I'll just go that route too :D

Nikon appears to have addressed all of the main issues / wish-list items with Z6 & Z7 mark II's (I already miss the "S" designation... small potatoes there), but what remains to be seen are two SUPER important questions:
1. Will the AF speed / subject / face / eye tracking system at least be on par with competing Sony & Canon bodies?
2. Can Nikon address their ongoing production & distribution issues?

None of these tech improvements matter if Nikon can't deliver products in a timely manner. We need lenses - people are literally yelling "Nikon, take my money!" and so many products are in constant backorder status. Even the non-S 24-200 is still nowhere to be found. Their lens roadmap milestones should not be updated until these products are at least reasonably available. People will get impatient and move on... especially when competing systems are showing some significant performance advantages.

I have a Z6 - I absolutely love it. I'm waiting on a few lenses (200-600 please! :)). I'm planning on a Z6 II by mid-2021 (or whenever launch price drops). More than anything I want Nikon to succeed in the mirrorless market... I'm invested... I'll support them... but they really need step up their supply/demand game in a big way.

I agree 100% on both counts.

Although the Z series AF is good for most subjects, potential buyers don't want to feel like they aren't getting the best or that the brand they are investing in isn't ever going to catch up. The new cameras really need to compete as well or better than the Canon and Sony counterparts.

As far as distribution, that's huge one. On one hand, Nikon is struggling financially, on the other some lenses are in incredibly high demand and yet impossible to find. Even after two years it's nearly impossible to get your hands on a 500PF. Anyone who has ever done any kind of sales work knows that the best time to sell a product is when the customer is excited about it. Every day, week, and month that passes finds the customer potentially losing interest or looking elsewhere. I think Nikon believes everyone will simply wait for until the lens is available for purchase, but instead, I think they are bleeding customers because of it.

I want to see what the Z8/Z9 is all about and if the 14fps is a reality. but the Z7 update will hopefully be a big improvement.

Does anyone know if the current DSLR 's are going be continued? or have we seen the last D Model DSLR's?

My Z6 pushes 12 fps in High Extended (NEF 12 bit + JPEG), and the gen 2 models are supposed to be faster - so maybe 14-15 on the Z6ii? Z7 is a little slower due to larger file size of course. Nikon is selling a lot more DSLR's right now than Z bodies, so I would guess they'll continue on for at least a while (total guess on my part).
