Telephoto Lens ‘That Has Never Existed Before’?

My vote is for a 200-500TC F/4 :)

One lens to rule them all :)
That actually would be pretty awesome to see. Although it feels like they wouldn't make a Z mount version since that hasn't been a priority for them in recent years. Now if they can get a 600 f4.5 that weighs less than the f4 TC and available for Z, I would be super tempted.

As long as it's in full frame Z mount. Sigma needs some Z mount lenses soon. Still waiting on a 14 mm 1.4 or 1.8 prime in Z mount. I wouldn't mind seeing Sigma make that lens.

My [current] fantasy, yet possible, not outrageously expensive, and relatively smaller/lighter than the high end exotics wildlife lens is that but a prime Nikkor Z 500mm f/4 PF TC. I have a feeling the zoom would make it a beast to lug around (and [correct me if I'm wrong] couldn't be a PF). One can dream!

Are there any lens optic inovations on the horizon? We would all like smaller, stronger, large aperture, cheaper, and sharper telephotos.
Hmmm,
Vinny

It will be very interesting to see what they do. If it is truly revolutionary, Nikon may be shooting themselves in the foot for not allowing Sigma to produce Z mount lenses. If it is just the right lens, some Nikon users (myself included) may jump ship to Canon or Sony to use it.

i didn’t get the impression they said “no”?

we have heard they don’t want ones that compete too directly with their offerings, but it’s even unclear if that’s (still?) true?

After looking at the same post on CanonRumors, I realized even Canon only allows Sigma APS-C lenses, so if it is full frame it could only be for Sony? Of course this and my Nikon statement are true as of right now, but that doesn't prevent both companies from allowing Sigma lenses in the future.

Maybe it's the first ever lens with an integrated Arca-Swiss compatible plate on the lens foot?

It certainly wouldn't be the first lens with an ARCA-Swiss compatable foot, the Olympus 100-400mm, 150-400mm and 150-600mm all have ARCA-Swiss feet -- the first and last seem to be manufactured by Sigma and Sigma's FF version have ARCA-Swiss feet.
