I don't like squirrels much because they're always trying to raid my bird feeder in the backyard, and they cause damage to the feeder. On the other hand I don't mind them in the wild where they don't bother anyone's feeders.
Today I took a quick drive to a farming area about 7 km from my home. I regularly find wild turkeys and hawks there, and just last week I found a beautiful specimen of a coyote there as well. I found a hawk but is was skittish and took off the minute the car came near.
Slowly driving down the paved, dead-end road with my driver's side window open I heard this squeaky little voice calling me to stop the car. There was this little red squirrel with some kind of nut in its mouth sitting in a dead tree, and it seemed as happy as can be. It sat there with the nut and allowed me to take a number of pictures.
This shot made the excursion worth it for me.
