The USS Independence, a littoral combat ship, was towed into Bremerton this morning after the decommissioning in San Diego on July 29th. The Independence was built to test emerging equipment and concepts and was an experimental platform to build a better near-shore combat ship for the Navy. The USS Independence was designed and built in Mobile Alabama.

I took this picture of the Independence in 2008 at the Austal Marine yard in Mobile Al.
