Insanely great images! 49 different focus settings on a 2"(?) subject. 2"/49 = 0.04", so on the average, you had a different focus setting for every 0.04" of the subject. My mind is officially blown!

Correct. No other way to get this close and take that many exposures without the subject moving. If you look @Intrajeet Singh's Posts he does a great job with in-camera stacking with live subjects.

Agree with everyone - a fantastic set showing real dedication and skill! Well done.
Just to be detailed though - since the photos are - you could hide the fact that the poor crane fly is dead a bit better if its front legs weren't folded like that They don't generally kneel...
