Thinking of getting a Nikon 24-70 2.8 VR. How do you guys like it?

I posted this on another forum but wanted your guy's opinion.
I looking to purchase this do go with my D850. I recently purchased a Tamron 24-70 2.8 G2 on eBay but had a lot of issues with it. I returned it for a refund. Anyone using this on a D850 and how do you like it. I'm going to use this for most of my landscape work. And then probably purchase the 14-24
This is my goto lens when I am not after bird shots with the 80-400. This lens is great for composing landscapes and portrait shots of friends and family. I can imagine you ever being disappointed. I keep it ready on my D850!! Ron Norman Photography

The 24-70 is one lens I don’t have and don’t miss. The 16-35 and the 20mm cover the wide end. The 70-200’s cover the other and the 50mm the middle. I’m sure the 24-70’s are great lenses but they just don’t suit what I do.
I had a 24-70 f2.8 and sold it. I found a wide angle zoom, 70-200 and 50 mm prime satisfied most of my needs.

Doesn't bother me one bit focus breathing as long as I can get in frame what I want to photograph . Much more important is how sharp the picture is, and this does it in spades compared to my |Nilkon 24-70 mm G lens. The image stablisation is amazing when hand held

I used to have a 17-55 for my D300 and I loved it. It was almost welded on the camera. I had an 18-70 kit lens from my D70s days and wondered if I'd miss the reach, but I did not.

This experience resulted in me giving myself a retirement gift when I retired. I gave myself a Nikon D700, a 14-24 f2.8 and a 24-70 f2.8. I already had an 80-200 f2.8. I so miss that camera now but the 24-70, for me, has been my go-to general purpose lens and has always been the lens that has been on the D700, D810 and now D850 when the camera is in the bag. I guess that this is because I've had this focal length range for so long it feels right.

I know that lenses have improved over the years but I've always been reluctant to go over a 4:1 zoom ratio, the only exception being the 18-200 that I got to put on my D300 as a travel kit when I got the D700.
