Too close for comfort

As I was looking for landscape photos from this past year I came across some storm photos. A pretty wild storm was in the area of my in-laws, so we decided to go out and try and photograph some lightning. The first three are some captures, and the last photo is well, one that was too close for comfort. The photo has not been edited - the lightning hit behind us and that is how bright the night had become. We were in the vehicle, I was using a remote and the camera was on a carbon fiber tripod. We shut down and went home after that strike.

Safer to have the camera on a tripod and use a remote lightning trigger for the camera. The metal car protects the occupants inside from lightning which can travel a long distance horizontally until it hits something or someone.
