Photos here should be sized no larger than 1200x800 pixels and have a total file size of less than 1MB

If the photo is already hosted elsewhere, you don't need to upload it here too. Just use the Media button and insert the URL.

If the photo is not hosted elsewhere, then open a free Flickr account and host it there. Flickr allow quite large images to be hosted and they don't compress them overly.
