UPS strikes again

Earlier today UPS returned my Z 8s and one of my wife's 2 Z 8's from NIkon (after being repaired). The camera/box is missing, the drive was rather matter of the fact about it - if I find it, I'll deliver it later today (by 7, it is now 6:35). I wrote to Nikon to ask them contact UPS and file missing shipment report and to send me a replacement Z 8. Don't expect Nikon to send out a replacement camera immediate but hopeful this will start the process to get my wife a replacement camera soon.

I know we have talked about UPS vs FedEx but I every few years I find UPS screws up big time and i never get an apology or compensation of any kind. A small sorry we screwed up gift (perhaps $5 or $10 credit) would go a long way to creating goodwill.

Yes I am mad at the lost shipment and dismayed the lack of responsibility exhibited by UPS. They seem to accept a few shipments out of 100 or 1000 as the cost of doing business. And don't seem to care about how they treat their consumers (after all I don't ship 10,000 or 100,000 packages a year).

enough ranting ...

My money is on UPS locating the missing box/camera within their system and delivering it tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then soon.

Last year I ordered 4 new wheels (complete with mounted tires) for my car, and only three of them showed up on delivery day. I'm not sure how you can't keep a set of four wheels together, but they found out a way to do just that (each wheel was treated as a separate package and had a separate tracking number). A little bit later that day, the tracking number and location for the missing wheel was updated in the UPS system and it was delivered to me the following day.

Frustrating, but if it is still just listed as missing, I would give them a day or two as Rick also suggested. Missing does not necessarily mean lost, it just means that specific shipment box did not make the plane/train/truck as was expected. But it is still good to keep monitoring the situation. Hope all turns out well.

Good luck,

Feel for you. And they are hard to communicate with. They damaged two espresso machines in four months. One I had to file a claim on. Very challenging. Hope it turns up. If you call have them notify the local distribution center.

I had a door tag from UPS today while I was in the shower. Tried to deliver but requires a signature. I never received a notice from Nikon or UPS that my Z8 was on its way home. Checked the Ring camera and he walked back to his truck with a small box that would fit a camera. We have nothing else ordered that would require a signature. I will get it Monday.

UPS says the package (camera) will arrive Saturday. The annoy part is I waited around to sign for the camera Friday and now I have wait again on Saturday

You expect Nikon to file a report and send a replacement when the package hasn't even been missing a day? In your dreams.
File a report with UPS, let UPS customer is upset with the poor service. Send a new camera after a day, no. But start the process in a few days, yes

As discussed in another thread, I have had a few problems over the years with UPS and never with FedEx. For expensive items like a camera I have it delivered to a FedEx Office store in town and pick it up at my convenience.

Late means i need to either risk porch pirates or waste hours at home waiting (again) for the package. THey screwed up, I waste my time

I had seen people for years state they divert their packages to local outlets. So when I had an item scheduled (2 days out) to unexpectedly arrive on a day I was going to be out of town, I used the option to have it held at the local outlet as frequently suggested, thinking I could simply pick it up when I arrived back in town.

Instead of holding it locally as indicated, however, FedEx held it 140 miles away for three days after the scheduled delivery date while I contacted the authorized dealer I bought the item from to notify them of what was going on. The dealer then had to notify the distributor who drop shipped the item for the dealer and who apparently placed automatic holds on items rerouted to locations that didn’t match the cardholder’s address.

So for me, having it held at the local outlet delayed delivery 3-4 days. On the other hand, it didn’t get stolen from my porch either. Haha

It just goes to prove that no matter how foolproof you think something is the fools will prove you wrong.

At the time of purchase (not after the fact), I enter my local FedEx Office address as the shipping address. No issues whatsoever.

My company spends 100's of millions a year with UPS and FedEx and we don't ever get an apology or credit of any kind to create goodwill. Frankly they don't have to, who else are you going to use and they know it.

I receive packages from all of the major carriers all the time and this happens more frequently than I care to count. As was stated above, we have limited choices and none of the carriers really have to care too much because of that fact. I am sorry that you had to wait an extra day for your package, and it is a waste of your time, but it is not our of the ordinary these days. And I see that your package did arrive today, so I am hoping that all is well.

well the camera came today. just left a $4000 at the front door, no signature, did not even ring the door bell
If the shipper didn't designate the package to require a signature, UPS has no way of knowing its value (unless the shipper designates it as a high value package). Also, the driver is no longer required to ring the doorbell. Special handling requires the shipper to notify UPS and the pay the extra costs associated with a high value package.

Funny, for me UPS has been like clockwork and Fedex has mislaid/misrouted/lost 4 packages in the last 4 months. Two of them were banjos, which are a little hard to misplace :)
Musical instruments are custom made. Hard to replace w/o trying lots. My wife plays viola

Glad it worked out as promised.
Just a month ago I had to sign a low value item ($50-100) but a much more valuable item they left on my down step I know different shipper have different policies.

Today while my $4000 Z 8 was left on my door step, I had to sign for a USPS package that had some clothing for my wife (maybe $250?). Perhaps that is why the PO is going broke and UPS is making money???
