UPS strikes again

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I gave up using the Nikon store a long time ago. They are so restrictive and inflexible that it's more trouble than it's worth. One thing you can do is to set up an account with UPS. Then once the item is in transit you can change the place/time of delivery without even dealing with Nikon.
I believe they call it UPS My Choice. Not sure if it works for all shipments, but it is free and helps with notifications and tracking.

this is an example showing some packages you can redirect to a ups store or other location and some do not.

again, i've noticed the same limitations with fedex.

I stated earlier I have had a few problems with UPS and never with FedEx. It just happened again. I bought a refurbished lens from Nikon USA on their ten percent refurbished sale. It said free two day shipping (but did not specify carrier) so I did what I normally do with B&H and had it shipped to a local FedEx Office store, since I wouldn't be home to sign for it. Nikon shipped it UPS and they will not deliver to anyplace other than the recipient's home or office so they are sending it back. The morning after it was supposed to be delivered I went straight to the main UPS hub in Tucson and the woman (who took a while to even show up at the customer desk) confirmed it was being sent back. I called Nikon for redilevery and they said they cannot schedule redilvery but will cancel and refund the order as soon as they get it back. UPS also told me I could NOT have it shipped to a UPS store. Why not? FedEx will deliver to any FedEx Office store or any Walgreens. Since Nikon only uses UPS and I work full time and cannot be home to sign for deliveries, I will never be able to order directly from Nikon again.
I pay the $19.99 annual fee for a UPS My Choice account and have it set up to automatically route any packages that are being sent to my house, to a nearby UPS Store. This doesn't change anything from the shipper's perspective as they are shipping the product to my address.

Once the package is picked up by UPS, then a request gets generated on my behalf to change the delivery destination to the UPS Store. I have this set up to happen automatically for all UPS shipments, but you could manage this manually as well.

This process has worked very well for me for a number of years now, and was put to good use during the fairly recent Z9 / Z8 service recall notices.

UPS offered me a choice to take delivery of my new Z8 at the earliest time slot this morning for $14.99. Tempting, but I clicked and passed. They’re in the neighborhood now and the anticipation is ramping up; I’ve got Steve’s set up page open and ready to go. :) My Z7 is ready for a new home and my D850 is wondering if it should get jealous now or later. (Later… I’ve got plenty of F glass still.)

It's been well over 1.5 years since my shipment was supposed to be delivered by Fedex at my employer office. Thank goodness for security cameras ! The driver pulled into the lot went to the back of his truck and even came up the steps and returned then to his truck and left. ALL VISIBLE ON CAMERA to our front entrance. He was empty handed and tried everyway to claim he had left it at our door, myself and other employees inside at the time. Luckily the company I had ordered from didn't charge me for the lost shipment but I now drive 2 hours for the comfort of buying direct from over the counter of a good camera shop. The driver attempted to claim he had left it at the door but our video showed he didn't , FEDEX didn't offer to cover anything . Sad that you can't get service anymore.
