Vero and the Death of Instagram

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Following everyone back. I just made my first post on there. I welcome them adding the ability to post via a computer, sending pics to my phone to just post is a bit of a drag but I hear that is changing.
Hello David,
I have followed you on Vero. Look forward to more posts.
I notice you say you can’t post from the computer.
I use windows (can’t comment on a Mac) and I have the Vero client/app (not the web site) and I can post directly from the computer.
On the main activity screen there is a big + plus sign floating down the bottom of the page. Click that and follow directions. Weird that is only available on that page, not in my profile section. Hope this helps but as I said, I can only comment about Windows PC. Check out the image attached, the + plus is at the bottom in the centre. I circled it in red.

Oh very interesting. So they have an app for your computer? I’ll have to see what’s in the App Store.

It seems like they only display images in tiny sizes. Am I missing some obvious way of enlarging them?
You can post images up to 3000 pixels on the long dimension. Once you do that, you and viewers can click on the image to enlarge. It fills the screen of my 11 inch iPad Pro with a crisp, detailed image. One of the reasons I prefer Vero over the alternative is the quality of the posted images. That and the ability to post vertical images without arbitrarily cropping are big advantages.

I just click on the thumbnails which gives a bigger view then click again for bigger still.

I upload landscape images at 1600 pixels and the biggest image is bigger than half of my 24" monitor screen. Images from other people are bigger still so They must be uploading bigger images than me.

I have noticed Instagram has slowly been dying and is trying to become something other than photo sharing. After watching Peter McKinnon’s video about the subject I’m following his lead and will be posting on Vero.

Is anyone else over there? I’d love to follow you and would be honored to share my work with you as well.

I just followed you as well. So far I'm liking it, however there are far fewer photographers there. Not nearly as many styles of wildlife photography either, and most of my favorite photographers are still only using Instagram...including the ones who say they're not in it for the likes and claim to dislike Instagram lol.

I get a lot more interaction on Vero than Instagram, but I started IG after the announcement about copycatting TikTok. I was really hoping to ditch IG altogether, but until I find more photographers whose work is more in line with my tastes I'll continue to post on Vero and browse IG.

I do find that it's harder to find people on Vero, and seems harder to get your content seen by others unfortunately. I wish that hashtags searches were displayed by popularity like on IG. Without any indication of many followers or posts are related to a hashtag it makes find the best ones hard. Overall though, it's still better than the other social media sites.

Hopefully more people start making the switch as it is a much better platform for photography.
