Verreaux's Eagle Owl

Are they rare in SA? We saw a half dozen or so in 9 days in Serengeti in April so I wonder if they’re just more common there.
From an Internet article:
Distribution
The Verreaux's eagle owl is widespread in sub-Saharan Africa, with the highest densities in eastern and southern Africa. In South Africa, it's most commonly found in the Karoo, along the cliffs of the Great Escarpment, and the Cape Fold Mountains. So apparently it's common enough in South Africa.

Yep…some days you get lucky and some you don’t. We saw no leopards but did score a serval and 2 caracals…hopefully Steve will cough up some leopards in Botswana in August.
