Distribution
The Verreaux's eagle owl is widespread in sub-Saharan Africa, with the highest densities in eastern and southern Africa. In South Africa, it's most commonly found in the Karoo, along the cliffs of the Great Escarpment, and the Cape Fold Mountains. So apparently it's common enough in South Africa.
