What are your secret tips for getting sharper photos

One little thing to add: I always shoot in a short burst, even for completely still subjects. Invariably there will be one shot sharper than the others, and it is almost never the first one.
 
I agree with all of the above, especially Watch Steve's videos, but in addition -shoot Raw, use the sharpening module in Topaz de-noise or AI clear on the raw file especially if cropped and/ or high ISO, and if you downsize, e.g. for the web, add a little sharpening after.
 
I agree with all the tips. I find shooting RAW whenever I want keepers. I try to spent some of my spare time practicing, then I shoot Jpeg. I look for sharpness and composure etc. because I don't keep them. I just shot some Xmas snap shots for a friend. All were kids and Santa indoors. All were keepers because of Raw. Adjusted lighting and colors.
Also no flash dark outside so no lighting help. Moving from room to room with different types of artificial lighting. Also read Steve's post.
