Preordered at my local store in Rome (Italy) a couple of hours after the announcement. I have a Z6II and a ZFc (and I will keep both). The dealer told me that I’ve been the first. Let’s see when I will get it…
If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).
I love ,u D850 and Z9 camera but I'm not happy about the Z8 Grip.Being somewhat tech challenged, how about someone starting a count or poll thread on BCG for people to log their choices to pre-order the Z8?
Mine was the second pre-order at my local Henry's in Mississauga today. I'll be trading in my Z6II in on the new body.
For those who vote "Not interested", feel free to reply below whether it's because you already have a Z9, whether you have no need for such a high-level Nikon, or whether you are invested in one of the other camera brands.
I will wait for evidence of freezing or lock ups not occurring as i am still in recovery from the Z9 experience.Being somewhat tech challenged, how about someone starting a count or poll thread on BCG for people to log their choices to pre-order the Z8?

I have just ordered one for the same reasonI ordered one. I realize I need a Z backup body for my Z9. Taking my D850 plus F glass just does not work. Plus having a smaller body choice when travelling/hiking.
Interesting to hear someone with business theory as their profession talk about emotional attachments to capital assets. I guess it is just theory I'm only a couple of years younger and have been fiscally responsible my entire life. Looking back some of my biggest regrets are major decisions that I made for financial reasons(jobs, houses, etc.). I'm now wholly committed to a new philosophy. With time running out my bride and I now try to make quality of life decisions rather than financial decisions. Well I do at least...I'm a retired business school professor, so forgive me for being "academic". In finance we pay attention to the value of the "option to wait", which leads me to wonder how long it might be until the Z8ii arrives. I'm 70 and only want to buy one camera in the next X years to replace my Z5 and D7500, especially given my emotional attachment to both.

Interestingly a few years ago I told myself that the D850 would be my last camera. Then convinced myself that the Z9 would be. But now I mean it. The Z8 will be my absolute last and final camera purchase. Or at least last pre-order. Maybe even the last NEW camera. OK maybe it won't be the last one. I wish it could be?
The problem is that the D850 won't attach to any of the wonderful new Z mount glass...I have drawn a line in the sand this time for certain, no more new high end cameras, i am focusing more on glass and life instead.
Its been a good move by Nikon, well done, its making a lot of people happy, i also think it will convert more DSLR owners.I too am in that happy camp….retired, 70+ and would rather spend it now than leaving it as somebody else’s inheritance. Lol. No kids, loads of nieces and nephews. So when I read criticism of those buying these new cameras I just wonder if the critics really know what backgrounds the buyers come from. Of course not. And that’s why others get irked by some of the criticism.
Believe me, there’s folk from every walk of life enjoying these cameras. Pro or otherwise.
just relax and enjoy!

Who has pre-ordered the Z8?
yes, I’ve ordered one
Would not have guessed that based on your profile pic…but then I’m 69 next Sunday and nobody thinks either my wife or I are that old…we usually get late 50s maximum when people guess.I too am in that happy camp….retired, 70+

If the size and weight of a Z9 is not a worry for you then a Z9 is a wise choice. In my mind its not an issue considering what i use it for, if i travel and holdiay then i use something else.I am on the waitlist but may switch to the Z9. I am concerned about battery life and video limitations. I am hoping that I can get at least 5 minutes doing 4k 10bit video without getting the card or camera to overheat. I'll have a better idea over time.

Thanks, weight is an issue but I'm trying to minimize it by using a monopod when I shoot. I do feel the industry will defiantly be moving up in pixels 80-100 much sooner than we may think.
Only an opinion
Take your mono pod into the store have a feel of a camera with the size and weight of a Z9 then a Z8 substitute a D850 for the Z8 then wave it around like your doing video it will give you a feel for things, if weight is an issue then you may have answered your own question its the Z8.Thanks, weight is an issue but I'm trying to minimize it by using a monopod when I shoot. personally, i wouldn't sweat the looks. My remaining dilemma... the MB-N12.
If the MB-N12 didn't make the Z8 so huge, and perhaps if it didn't look like someone made a careless mistake on how it fits to the Z8... it would be an easy choice. But I'm leaning toward selling my MB-N11 (I don't need two grip'd bodies) and just getting the MB-N12. I enjoy the versatility of a modular grip - for certain scenarios a grip is a must-have for me, but I also like to hike and travel as light as possible. Ya I know it's ugly. But it's functional. Maybe it'll grow on me. My right shoulder and wrist will thank me.
I ordered the grip too. I am invited on the 25 th of May to play with the Z8 and the grip on a Nikon Vip event. On announcement day, I originally decided I'll just go for the Z9. I watched all the fanfare, thought about it, slept on it, and considered my current situation & goals.
Pre-ordered the Z8 the next morning with the mindset of having it locked in, and if somehow I change my mind - I can always just cancel. Now I'll have the Z8 as primary and Z6II as secondary / backup.
I'm happy with this decision and I can't wait to get the Z8. And hey I can always add a Z9 down the line if I decide to. My remaining dilemma... the MB-N12.

Question: Does anyone know if the dials on the MB-N12 are rubber, or just plastic? The material looks a little different to me. The grip dials on the MB-N11 are plastic (vs the metal dials on the Z6/7II's...).
