A Bengal Tiger at Panna Tiger Reserve, Panna, Madhya Pradesh, India: The story of Panna is fascinating, from having a huge population of tigers, they went down to ZERO and then with the efforts of the community and conservationists the population has revived. That area now seems to be between 60-80 tigers. To revive the population seven tigers were brought in from other parks in the same region. The tiger names are based on their lineage. This fellow is called P663 - P6 was the tiger that was introduced into this region, this is from its 6th litter and is the 3rd cub.
Of course, the guides and drivers and forest department do have more creative and friendly names for them as well.
