Yellow-billed Cuckoo

Although they're far from rare, yellow-billed cuckoos are very secretive and seldom descend from the forest canopy. With a high population of gypsy moth caterpillars this spring, there were a lot of cuckoos around and this one appeared in our apple tree. Unfortunately, the instant it finished preening and fluffing its feathers it flew off. This image was cropped moderately and compressed for posting --
