Can I manually put the camera into standby? Often set it down in a hide and then listen to the image stabilisation whirr away till it goes to sleep. Nice save some battery and wear and tear. Don't want to turn it off.

I find the Z9 (and assume the Z8 will be the same) powers up from the on-off switch as fast as I can bring the camera up to my eye. Thus, I turn my Z9 off whenever I bring it away from my eye for more than a few seconds.

You can turn the camera off or set the Standby timer for as short as 10 seconds. It will also go out of standby mode when you go into review mode.
