Z9 availability in the UK

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I think a was very lucky, traded in my D850 plus a couple of lenses against the Z9 on 19 Nov, got it on 3rd Feb did not chase it up thinking it would be around June a nice surprise. (Wex). A wonderful camera D850 on steroids. Since then traded my D500 against the 100-400mm lens, the Z9 in DX or crop later made the D500 redundant for me , received the lens a month later.

Thank you, everywhere is out of stock!
I’m on a few companies mailing list to inform me when they get them back in stock
I’m off to Mull, first 2 weeks in September, stopping in my camper with not many opportunities for charging
I’ve just ordered a battery power bank for mobile charging, see how I get on with that!
You might try renting one for your trip

I ordered mine direct from Nikon UK in mid-April. I was surprised when it arrived before the end of June. They don't inform you before charging your credit card so if you also have an order via a dealer you need to remember to cancel any order with Nikon UK

That's fantastic news, finally your getting one, i am certain you will love it and Steves Book is brilliant.

Here in Oz there starting to surface more on the used market, the latest is currently on Gum Tree $8K AUD negotiable, i have seen over the past 3 months about half a dozen advertised used in different platforms, $7K To $8K AUD, myself i am considering selling mine possibly very soon, I am just at the final deliberation stage.

Make certain that you get your local Nikon people to do the updates if any are needed.

I know we can do them ourselves and its easy, but let me tell you if or when anything goes seriously wrong with a corrupted file, its terminal, and its deadly expensive to fix with a hell of a wait. Warranty may also be an exposure.

I pop into Nikon down the road so to speak and let them do it quickly while the clean the sensor at the same time. As a practivce i leave all my gear to Nikon to do updates etc.

Only an Opinion

Well after 10 months my Z9 is due to arrive on Monday, perfect timing given the release of Steve’s terrific setup guide.

Thanks to all who commented on this thread.
Great to hear… your next wait will be for Z lenses…. I ordered the 100-400 in April…… 🙄 got the Z9 itself very quickly from a local specialist dealer (I think everybody else went to Wex!) As far as I can tell, no lenses are arriving in the UK at all 😡. Just as well the FTZ adapter does such a good job… and… you will love the camera!

Lol… after I posted last night I went and looked at Panamoz, and I have to say, I’m tempted…. Last time I looked, they were charging a premium, but their prices seem to have come down….

Panamoz is a grey importer, so you get their warranty and not Nikon‘s. While I‘ve never had a lens that needed support, cameras often seem to, so I’d worry about getting a z9 on the grey market. Just saying. I know some people love them, but a cautionary note just in case.

Yep fully aware of that! Panamoz offer a 3 year warranty, against Nikons 1 year and they use Nikon for all there repairs, i have never had any issues over the years that ive been using them! But my best friend had issues with his z7 which was repaired with no hassle what so ever!!

I think the problem would arise only if the item needed an “operator error” repair (dropping or other muppetry moments for instance). Panamoz don’t offer non-warranty repairs as far as I’m aware?

No warranty would cover this sort of damage. In the UK the independent repairers would sort this out.

There is a grey import company here that has an agreement with a UK repairer to do any warranty work and they - and others would not turn work away if you wanted a repair done out of warranty so there is no reason why they would not repair something the warranty would not cover.

Fixation in Vauxhall London are the top Nikon Repairer in the UK now and they seem to receive and distribute all Nikon Spares now too. I would suggest you start with them.

While I have used them a few times in the past (I used to live quite close to them before moving out of London) I don't need their services at the moment. I was replying to Kirsty M's post saying that any repairer will work on a camera that is out of warranty so they would also cover accidental damage too.

Grays of Westminster (used to work under 10 mins walk from them) send all of their repairs to the Vauxhall branch of Fixation. IIRC HDEW - the grey importer I was talking about use A J Johnstone in Scotland for their warranty work.

I live in outer SW London - but it is easier these days for me to ship my gear to them than travel. Anyway - best of luck. NPS UK repair turnaround has become terrible since they moved out of Kingston Upon Thames - which was fairly close to me and an easy drive.

I'm the odd one out in my family. Us South East London boys are supposed to move into Kent when we fly the nest, but I went from Walworth to North West to Bedfordshire. I have taken a camera to Fixation by road from where I live now, but did send a lens to them for servicing.

Never used The Nikon service center in Kingston on Thames. Fixation have always had better turn round times. Best was 2 days from when I dropped off my Nikon D810 a few years ago now.

Back in 2016 I took all my Nikon safari gear to Kingston to have them "map" each lens to each body -- 3 DSLRs and 3 lenses (600/4, 400/2.8, and 70-200) and they did a great job. I also dropped a D5 and 400/2.8 out of the window of a safari vehicle -- more correctly "it dropped" while I was distracted -- and the Nikon team did a fantastic job rebuilding the camera and putting all back to as new and my insurance paid for it all. Rob and the NPS/Nikon team were and are great, but I am guessing now, fiscal pressures have forced Nikon UK to optimise their "arrangements" between work they do and work they outsource.
It is apparent that Fixation holds and distributes most Nikon spare parts AND after Gray Levitt put me on to Fixation for deep cleaning, AF calibration and also repairs I have used them a lot - they recently fixed a 300/2.8 that needed a new AF motor and a really deep clean. I also use them to source hard to get gear and 2nd hand gear I sourced my 2nd Z9 from them after they called me.
Since October 2015 Fixation became part of WEX, and since September 2017 together with Calumet and Wex/Wex Rental -- "Calumet Photographic has now merged with Wex to form Wex Photo Video, the UK's premier destination for photographers and filmmakers" -- but the Vauxhall store (on Kennington Lane) still trades as "Fixation:, cause "we" all know it is the same guys I have been doing business with for 30+ years inside.

One note -- if you drive to their facility then take great care to check your car into the parking system the building owners have put in place (the dogs) otherwise you will get a fine. They tried to do this to me -- but "my guys" cancelled it.

Yeah - the parking is very restricted there. After I drove there, the next visit was by rail/tube and I walked from Vauxhall tube station. Now I'd just post anything to them.
