Z9 Service Advisory for Lens Release Button

30249XX unaffected. Nikon North America Market. Received it mid-September 2022. Affected serial numbers are ‘all over the map’ so to speak. IMO Impossible to draw any conclusions if the issue persists in a certain batch or run of serial numbers.

Are the serial number in sequential series respective to their build date?
i think i recall in other discussions that each geographic distribution area may have it's own "block" of serial numbers, so even though they are likely sequential within that geographic distribution area, they may not be strictly sequential in terms of build date.

From Thom Hogan who also indicated Z9's made in Oct/Nov 22
"Nikon today announced a Service Advisory for the Z9. Specifically, the advisory is for a lens lock pin that won’t release, making it impossible to change lenses on the camera. Nikon says this is due to a part that they’ve determined doesn’t meet their standards, but I suspect there may be a little more to it than Nikon reports."

that statement puzzles me. what "more" would there be?
Perhaps the “more to it” would explain why only recent Z9 lens lock pins are faulty and not recent Z 7 or 6 pins. What’s different about a Z9 lens lock pin than those found on Z 6 or 7 cameras anyway? Hogan probably suspects the pin itself isn’t the issue but something surrounding the pin, like a spring or perhaps the allotted space for the assembly was tweaked to give more room for wires or boards and that tweak caused performance differences in the spring or necessitated a different spring that’s proven itself not to be reliable.

All speculation of course, but I have seen multiple people state that they’re going to wait to get the fix taken care of as they haven’t had any issues and don’t want to ship it during the winter. I hope they realize that if their lens gets stuck on the body, they are going to be shipping the body and lens together as a unit rather than the body alone in the original form fitting box they saved. That or they’ll be driving it to the repair center.

I also noted in Nikon's announcement that they said they would inspect and replace as required. It could be they don't have an exact usage for the suspect part and/or have an easy way to identify which units have the troublesome part.

I shipped mine off to Nikon today. I did not want to find myself in the position where I could not remove a lens or the ftz adaptor and have to ship the whole thing to Nikon. I sure hope they are expeditious in fixing the issue.

Whew, mine is not recalled.
Curious if anyone here has had issues with their lens lock pin not releasing?
As much banter the internets has with Z9 issues, this is the first I have heard of the problem and it comes from the mothership herself.
