Just got finished setting up my Z8 only to find out that formatting the card deletes all settings. Is there a way to prevent this from happening. I like to format after downloading pics computer.
If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).
I am using format memory card in menu. A video I watched for setting up the Z8 said what I said above would happen. Thanks for the reply.Something isn't right there. Formatting the memory card used for shooting should not impact camera settings at all. Sure formatting a card where you've saved your settings will wipe out those settings saved on the card but it still should not do anything to the settings currently set in the camera itself.
Are you certain you're choosing the menu item for Formatting(or using the two button press method to reach the Format option) and not Reset All Settings from the Settings menu?

Maybe I miss understood the video. But, I am afraid to format at this time. I am trying to contact the fellow that made the video for clarification. Thanks.Doesn't sound right. The camera settings should reside on the built in camera memory, not on the cf express or sd card. Maybe the video said it would erase stored settings if you had a backup saved.
Could this be the section?

No need to live in fear of your equipment. As others have said formatting the card should not reset the camera. And is not something that you can live with. So one of two things:Maybe I miss understood the video. But, I am afraid to format at this time. I am trying to contact the fellow that made the video for clarification. Thanks.

In his Z8 setup video on YouTube, he mentions that if you’ve saved your menu settings on your memory card, it’s vital to load those saved settings to the camera before formatting your memory card. Otherwise, they’ll be erased from the memory card during the formatting process.www.Hudsonhenry.comm. Complete setup of Z8
On my Z9, I’ve saved my baseline settings to a memory card that I only use for that purpose. I bought an inexpensive CF Express card from B&H and I keep it in my camera bag so it’s handy. What HH probably meant is that if you save your settings to the card the format will delete them. So basically if you format your card frequently you need to remember to save your settings to have a baseline to come back to if you mess with your banks too much. There's no way formatting the card resets the camera settings itself.
Don’t be afraid to format your memory card when needed. You won’t change any of the current settings on your camera.Maybe I miss understood the video. But, I am afraid to format at this time. I am trying to contact the fellow that made the video for clarification. Thanks.
