Walking Around Photos

This is a great thread! I like seeing the photos and will drop one of mine own once in awhile. (y)

Please do, that's the idea to keep folks contributing, sharing ideas and getting out and capturing photos.

Nice image with the bee, the colors really pop and the bee jumps right out.

Not sure, it was at RSPB Sandy in Bedfordshire underneath the bird feeders waiting for tit bits to fall
I thought it was a Pika also but knowing the location I would say it is a Vole. Cute little buggers

Check this out from a few minutes ago. I just went outside to see what was making noise. I could barely see a something on top of the steel and tried to focus on the slight reflection off the steel in live view. This is what I got. Not gonna win an award with the Audubon Society but it was fun to see those eyes. :geek:

That's a very cool image and it presents really nicely at least in a web sized image. It really has the perfect feeling for an owl shot, really moody. What's the light reflecting off the steel and giving you the light on the owl? Is that just some light from your house reaching out of windows and the door?

That's quite a testament to both you (you thought to bring the camera and got clever on the focusing) and the D850 for dealing with almost no light at all.

The light is some hideous globe landscape lights in the center circle across from us. The steel is a tubular steel Saguaro cactus statue that stands maybe 20 feet tall. I see a lot of birds on top of that throughout the year. lol

I don't want to take over but I want to share one more honest to goodness walking around shot from October 1st last year. I had my D500 with a Tamron 18-400 lens and was walking along the river behind our place hoping to catch some Beaver's out of their lodge. I usually see them with very low light so I had a tripod. On my way back home I spied a Great Horned Owl land up high in a spooky looking Russian Olive tree. I also noticed the waxing crescent moon was rising and would possibly transition the tree so I set my tripod and waited. As it got darker and the moon moved closer after a few set up shots I got my Owloween photo. Again not gonna win awards but pretty fun for me just walking around.

I was keeping an eye out for a hummingbird that's been frequently perching on our crab apple tree when a juvenile Cedar Waxwing flew in and hopped around to some nice branches. He hung around for a couple of hours and gave me lots of good poses but the highlight was when the parents came in to feed him.

Nikon D5, 500mm PF @ f/6.3 1/1000'. ISO 2200, hand held captured through an open kitchen window.

Here's one to mix it up a bit (and show that there's more in the world than birds :) )

Went camping last weekend and took my camera for a walk in the evening. I'd hoped to photograph a nice family of Trumpeter Swans that I'd photographed earlier in the day in late evening light but they had other plans and swam to the far side of the lake. So I went for a stroll in the woods and came across a bunch of Chipmunks scurrying around on downed trees. I liked the backlight and background behind this little guy as he devoured grass seed pods and flowers up on top of this log.

Wow, that's a beauty Chris. I've shot a lot of Mountain Bluebirds but have never seen so much color on their breasts. Really great capture!

Yeah that is pretty much my macro lens....lol I end up having to crop it a bit due to minimum focus distance but it works good enough for now. I'd hate to haul a macro lens around everywhere.
I was just looking through my April photos thanks to this thread and found this one you might like in the desert behind us. D850 with 200-500mm shot of a California Quail closeup in Central Washington. View attachment 340
Nice mugshot!

Nice images and you guys seem to have great opportunities. Don't do that a lot here because your and your gear may not make it back home - no kidding. However, I am always on the lookout and when these guys visited my street, I grabbed the D500/500PF and followed them across the street where they were foraging in an Apiesdoring (acacia tree).

I don't understand, is it because of crime? Nice photo
