This is one I grabbed recently. Spotted them in the back of our meadow. Used the 600mm TC with the TC engaged, so 840mm. I was surprised it came out as good as it did. I checked the distance with my rangefinder afterwards and they were just over 200 yards away.

On Monday at sunset I discovered a litter of coyote pups here in Tucson. My Z 180-600 was not long enough to do it justice, so I went back Tuesday after work with my Z 2x attached (photo below). This combination does not work well and most images were deleted, but I saved one of the least soft ones and ran it through software to sharpen (and still had to crop in a bit). I ordered a Z 1.4x that arrives tomorrow and will see if that is better, even with additional cropping (I will get one stop faster aperture at least).

I was back today for the puppies. Later I walked around and came across one of the adults standing and looking at me from a path on the opposite side of a locked gate (it was on the side where people are not allowed). This is raw processed in DxO PureRaw, but no cropping or advanced editing. The surrounding bushes create a natural vignette and swirl which I love (the bright area behind is a basin in the sun).

Not great photos but the location is of interest, at least to me. I recently traveled back to where I grew up in South Jersey and on my first morning out looking for birds, I turned a corner on a woods road and saw this. We didn't have Coyotes there when I was growing up. I do remember hearing about the possibility of their presence as I was leaving in the early eighties. By the signs, scat/tracks, along the roads it looks like they are now flourishing.

@Oldnintheway Nice shots. Yes, coyotes were originally found in the western half of the country (plains states to west coast). Over the last few decades they have expanded their range (due partly to lack of competition from extirpated wolves). They are now found throughout the United States, even in cities.
