Official Nikon Z9 Launch, Info, and Discussion Thread

I've had some trouble with my Z9. It freezes up. Sometimes, I press the playback button or menu button, and it starts shooting 5-10 shots. I haven't seen this come up in this thread. I updated to 2.0 again (this also happened with previous firmware). Has anyone noticed this with their Z9?

I haven't. I was hoping their would be an easier solution than losing my camera for several weeks. 😬
Sometimes Nikon can give you that easier solution over the phone. Although this forum attracts vastly experienced, bright, capable photographers, they may not be able to respond quickly. I just sent my Z9 in for warranty repair and was without my camera for 15 days, which included a 4-day holiday weekend at Nikon and my failure to include the sales receipt, which added 2-3 days to the process. If your profile name is accurate, you live 1200 miles closer to the CA repair facility than I do, so your turnaround time, if needed, should be a couple days shorter.

That sounds suspiciously similar to some anomalies I experienced early on.

Pay close attention to the vertical shutter lock switch - keep it locked unless shooting vertical. ;-)

Once I figured this out, I have not seen this oddity occur any more.

So reading the above i wish only for the Z9 to deliver NOT LESS than the D850 in image quality and dynamic range, using Raw, or JPEG fine at maximum 20 fps.....
So is that what is being said or questioned.............

I want to shoot the Z9 just like the D850, with the option of utilizing the speed and other benefits...........at a flick of a switch.

I intend only using the Z9 around 10-12 fps with the option of moving to 20 fps if and when needed...............for special applications.........
I am looking at the Z9 to be my all round do everything from landscape to sports action and wild life..........
a) i cant really ware the shutter out
b) i get IBIS using FX lenses but limited to only 3 stops not 5 for Z lenses???
c) tilt screen
d) 45mp at 20 fps is handy...........
e) tracking is a free bee i am not really dependent on that so much i like to use my own skill set.............or be in control,

Number one is unless the image quality is as good as the D850 i don't want the Z9............
Ok the bonus is 30 fps, heck only knows if i would ever even use 120 fps LOL
With reference to the 20fps I only get 10fps if in focus priority but 20fps in release priority, see this post.
When menu setting A1 is set to FOCUS priority in AF/C mode, whilst continuously focusing at an aperture number higher than f5.6, even on a stationary subject, the maximum shots per second is 10 fps. Wide open OR any aperture equal to or less than f5.6 (f1.8 - f5.6) - the camera can attain 20fps.

This occurs as far as I am aware on Z lenses and adapted f-mount G lenses.
It is not an issue if A1 is set to Release or focus/release.

Anyone can check to see if this is my camera specific or normal ?

Nikon has had me reset my camera. I do feel you are right. It can be a faulty shutter button. Unfortunately, I feel my main shutter button may always think it's half pressed down.

Fyi - updated 2nd Edition but it's not obvious how accessibility applies to those who paid for the 1st edition:

Now Includes Settings for Nikon Z9 Firmware v2.1

I must say with so many in depth reviews on the Z9 and some scientific style ones etc, the market and hours put in are amazing, do you think the market really needs another one LOL
PS the info being provided in this forum with some of the links are very interesting and helpful.
Only an opinion

A couple times I have had my Z9 rip off 5 to 10 images when I pushed FN1. But now I am blaming myself as I likely hit the bottom grip release with the edge of my hand. I locked that release and this has not happened since.

Sorry about your Z9. It may freeze up if the card is poor quality or card is defective - dying.
