Don't think a dedicated photo/discuss thread has been done yet for the 800PF, so here we go. The newness and buzz have worn off, especially now that most everyone has hopefully received their copies after the standard Nikon new release hype waiting period :rolleyes: I've had my copy for a year now, and it's been all that I had hoped it'd be, though not quite as easy to use as my old D500 + 500PF that it replaced. Never the less, it has helped me land some of my best photos to date, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. So, let's see some photos from this lens!

Like in the 600PF thread, the species here during the winter are scant, except for Juncos, they're very plentiful at this frigid time of year. Anything gets boring if you shoot it enough, so I'm rather particular about when I go out, usually when there's some amazing light or nice snow around to spruce up the lifeless environment. These shots were the other morning after a night of snow, when the sunrise was pink coming through the departing clouds.

I am trying to get the hang of posting here sorry if I messed something up;

On the above photos the first is taken handheld at a local beach. I think this bird is into Heavy Metal.

The second is of a short ear owl taken at some distance.

The third was taken just this weekend while sitting on a park bench at a local beach park in Seattle. Not a unique composition but the image was not cropped and the bird was not far away. Nice place to winter if it is not raining too much.

I can count on one hand the number of times the 800mm been of my Z9 since I got it over a year ago. Here are some of my photos. You'll find more on my Instagram

For birders, the 800PF offers amazing value as well as ease of use.
I was on the pre-order list for 6 months, until the size and the weight of the Z9 steered me to the Sony A1.
Had the Z8 been released sooner, I would definitely be using the 800PF right now. My only reserve would have been how it shoots over larger distances, an area where the Sony 600GM's performance is sublime.
Going by the images, it is the most desirable PF lens for me, but it is also great that you can pair it with the featherweight 600PF

1) First time out with the lens.

I love this lens on my Z9. It has not seen a lot of use in the past few months because the available subjects over the winter were not that good. Expect better as Spring and the birds arrive. Here is a selection of shots I like.
Including my first Whooping Crane in the wild, a Redwing Blackbird perched on a Redtailed Hawk, Sandhill Cranes, young geese, and so on.

Love the Green Herons, miss those little buggers!

I haven't been using my 800PF all that much, but that's about to change, as the first returning migrants have arrived: Robins and Common Grackles.
Although this image is at 800mm, I also like how it performs with a TC @ 1120mm.
Just did some shots the other day using the 1.4TC, and they came out very crisp:
