I was just making my post, @Alexis, and then the thread updated with your shots... I'm blown away by that Short-eared Owl, soooo dang good! Now I don't even want to post mine, it's a far cry from what you just dropped on us!

Took some more randoms with the 1.4 TC, just to assess performance. Nothing to complain about, lens works great with the TC.

Thanks for the kind words. I was just lucky that the short eared landed very close to me and when the light was very good. It was close enough to get a full frame shot of that take off.

Some excellent shots here!
In the Sabi Sands reserve the 70-200 is king simply because the larger animals are close to the vehicles. However apart from birding the 800mm PF comes into its own with large animals a bit further away, so I will always have the 800 pf with me even though 70-80% of shots are with the 70-200 s lens

Lance, these looked good on my iPhone 14 screen, but when I got them on my 5k monitor, they just jump off the page! Gorgeous work, as always!

Out yesterday getting a feel for the 800PF + 180-600 pairing in the field, shooting out of my Mindshift Backlight 36L. This two-lens setup is absolutely perfect for birding; last year I wasn't getting along with the massive FL gap between the 100-400 and 800, so thinking this year will be more fluid.

Found a Carolina Wren, a rarity for us here in the Midwest.

Yesterday I posted this video on another thread about 800PF because I was unaware of this thread. Here is (I think at least) an interesting video using 800PF on a Z8 to photograph Pallas' cats in Mongolia.
Very nice video that remind me my trip to Inner Mongolia, China, to photograph snowy owls , great Grey owls and corsac fox. Every day we had to shovel snow to make our way.

I agree this is an very nice set too!

Me and my partner were in awe looking at various photos in this thread.

So many fabulous images here. Shows why this is such a great lens. I have had my 800pf for a year now. I use it on my Z9 and absolutely love it. I had a nikon 600 f4 g lens before which I almost always had a 1.4 tc on so I knew the 800 would work well for me. I find it so refreshing to have a shorter, lighter lens. I live in the PNW so 6.3 was a little troublesome but not much different than the 5.6 I was at with the 600 plus tc. I am able to shoot fast subjects just fine and do not have an issue acquiring the subject most of the time. I have shot fast moving Kingfishers, Bluebirds, and owls. Here are a few of my images. I don't post much so I hope this works.
