Best wildlife mirrorless camera kit for around $3,000?

I loved the D-500 with the 300f4 and a 1.4 TC but felt the reach was too short so the 500PF was almost always mounted. The weight is almost the same as an OM-1/100-400 but I liked the additional reach and subject ID of the mirrorless OM-1.

Thanks. I'm starting to think of my d500 as a placeholder and fabulous learning tool until I can afford an equivalent mirrorless in AF, like the z8 or z9. At least 2 years away. But the pfs will tide me over until I can add z native lenses.

My most important thing is to put myself in the right place at the right time and in the right light. When I do, I come home happy with what the d500 gives me.

This is a good article. I faced this dilemma when I made my choice. At the time, nikon didn't have the z9 or z8, so the d500 was the most affordable well-performing choice.
I've noticed on this forum many z9 and z8 users keeping their 300mm and 500mm PFs. That tells me my investment in bargain glass is a good one when I transition.
In the meantime I'm learning how to use my current d500 after a transition from....wait for it...a d90! A comparison is a tricycle vs Ferrari.
Here's a recent low light handheld shot at1/60, iso 16000. Hopefully it comes through, 1st time I have posted a photo.

I'll try again on the photo.
Well, it didn't go through, so I'd better read about how to do it.
