I had a similar thing happen at a small lake a couple weeks ago. About a dozen came swooping in, made a low looping pass and flew away. Happened real quick and I was not able to get any keepers (I am using the 'too far away' excuse). Great capture!!!

The cormorants are so fast and fly so low that I usually have a hard time getting a decent shot of them. Here is one just after take-off.
