I use a Thermocell portable mosquito repellent unit clipped to my rubber boot. So far, I have only used it when gardening, but it seems to keep insects away effectively.

Wow, did not know it lasted so long! Thanks!Where I live in California the ticks can carry more than two dozen diseases in addition to the borrelia bacteria. Ticks and fleas also spread the bubonic plague that was introduced into California via ships from China in 1900. As with Covid the major of San Francisco and the governor of California suppressed information about the plague and refused to do a quarantine and so the plague spread throughout the western USA. In 2007 a wildlife researcher, Eric York, while examining the body of a mountain lion became infected and subsequently died from the plague. A study of mountain lions in Yellowstone found that more than half the cats were infected. An insect bite is more than an inconvenience but can be life threatening and precautions are worthwhile.
What I like about using permethrin is that a strong concentration will last for up to a year and through 50 clothes wash cycles and I can apply it to the clothing I have selected for at trip which can differ greatly depending on the destination. It costs me less than 10 cents per garment which if I bought pre-treated clothing would cost me an extra $10 per item.
And a full treatment can last up to a few months or several washes.I use Permethrin clothing treatment. It is not a repellent. It is a pesticide that kills mosquitos, black flies and ticks, or anything else crawling on you. You spray on your clothing and let dry, usually over night. It works very good for keeping mosquitoes away.
This is what I use & I’ve never had an issue with getting bitten.I use a Thermocell portable mosquito repellent unit clipped to my rubber boot. So far, I have only used it when gardening, but it seems to keep insects away effectively.
It does not work on ticks and they do not claim that it will. It is not intended for on the go use. This is what I use & I’ve never had an issue with getting bitten.
Had it a few years now but the company has grown in popularity with some heavy hitters on YouTube like Steve Matteus & Joe Rogan using & endorsing it.
It really does what it says on the tin & creates an invisible net around you.
I tried the creams & sprays but found this to be the best, but everyone’s different & different things work for different people.
I just clip it on my rucksack & touch wood have never had an issue. It does not work on ticks and they do not claim that it will. It is not intended for on the go use.
