This is clearly a strong example for atmospheric blur (heat haze).
100% sure about that.

concur on "heat haze" as the cause although I prefer "atmospheric diffraction". since you can get it in winter.

If you inadvertently have HDR on your images will resemble these…

This is not the first time I've seen this type of blur/OOF. I frequent this spot and during the day the sun is coming at about 90 deg to the subject. Even manually focussing produces weird results like this? The last photo was taken at the same spot but about 160 deg angle to the sun and does not create the same effect?View attachment 110927View attachment 110928

See this a lot due to atmospheric hazing and the PF’s seem equally if not more susceptible. Likely the temperature difference between the vegetation and water.

I agree
