KEH vs MPB for selling camera gear

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Every time I go to sell I check them both and MPB has always offered a higher price. On several occasions after reviewing the item, they have given me a few bucks more than they quoted.

Over the years, Ive used all 3 and B&H to sell my gear, but when I wanted ti upgrade to new gear I would always go the trade-in route and I used Allen's Camera Shop in PA. I would always get a maximum trade in price as credit against my new purchase and Allen's prices were always the same or lower than B&H on new Nikon gear.

I mentioned this elsewhere in a similar thread...

After buying my Z8 it was time to get rid of all my DX gear which was all I shot prior to the Z8. I had 4 camera bodies (two brands) , eight lenses and some odds and ends. Got online quotes from both. MPB was about $200 higher. But KEH had a local buying event so I took it all there. I wasn't at all bashful about how I rated the gear on both sites. The guy from KEH reviewed all my gear, had no questions or problems and handed me a check for just a few dollars less than $3,000. It could not have been easier.

The one thing people should keep in mind is that what any dealer will offer you is going to be based on the popularity of an item as well as how much current inventory do they have. I recently sold my 500 PF. The online offers were between $600-$900 from KEH, MPB, and B&H. I ended up getting $1360 from Nikon on a trade for a new Z100-400. Timing is everything.

Although I've never used MPB, I'd say they and KEH are both good to deal with. It really just depends what you're selling and when, as to who you should go with.

Anyone have experiences selling camera gear online with KEH or MPB? With KEH thier highest grading system listed for my gear is "LIKE NEW MINUS". No "NEW or LIKE NEW" option available when I list my gear for online quote. They have an option to make online appointment to evulate gear, has anyone ever used this option for KEH.
MPB is good for quick sale if you don't mind getting half the street value. Otherwise Fredmiranda.com or craigslist are better choices for buyers and for sellers.

I have sold quite a bit of stuff to MPB, and experience was very good. Better than dealing with bad actors on eBay. Currently selling a nikkor 400mm f/4.5, and KEH offer was more than $100 better than MPB. Will be giving them a try for this sale.

Here is un-orthodox approach. MPB offered me $940 for 500mm PF and 1.4 teleconverter. I posted both on craigslist for $1,600 and sold them locally in a week. I'd suggest to try this approach first, just set price below ebay, which anyway would much more than from MPB, KEH, etc. They would pay only wholesale prices in order to make sustainable profit. Besides, Facebook's Marketplace is another option.

As I moved from DSLR to all Z gear starting in 2022 I got quotes from MPB,KEH, Roberts, B&H and KEH was always the lowest offer.

I sold all of my lenses and camera bodies to MPB except one trade in with Roberts when Nikon had a good trade in deal.

I had very good experiences with MPB and they paid faster, with smooth on line deposits to my checking account, than KEH or B&H the places I sold DSLR gear in the past before I discovered MPB.

I have used both with no complaints. Lately it seems as if MPB has a much better selection than KEH. So I've only used them this year.

I do have this complaint: I traded gear with MPB nearly a month ago, and my gear still has not shipped. When I log in, I just get this message:

"Payment sorted! We're ready to send your new gear - you'll be shooting in no time."

I guess "no time" includes a month or two?

I have never purchased from them but that does seem odd ... you may want to call or email them.
