Lens (that are realistic) that I would like to see Nikon make

Here is my wish list of lens in the Z mount (approximately in priority order)

600 F/5.6 (probably PF)
180-400 F/4 TC replacement
Long Macro with tripod collar
70-200 F/4 or similar to complete the F/4 trinity
17 or 19mm TC-E

Lower priority
12-24 F/2.8 or F/4
16 F/1.8 or F/2 for night skies

Probably some other lens that are not top of mind now. I don't have nor do I expect to have a DX camera, so there are no DX lens on my list.

What is on your wish list?

For now, I only have one on my wishlist and it is a smaller, lighter 600mm similar to the 400mm 4.5 or 800mm PF. I'd prefer it be faster than F/5.6 if possible though. In one of the threads someone mentioned F/4.7 as a possibility which would be great. I would like to be able to add the 1.4x TC and be under F/8.

Without the 200-600 Nikon is not in the game with wildlife zoom shooters and has and will continue to lose market share. I mean, how many Nikon 200-500s are out there? They have NO Nikon upgrade path.

The popular amateur birding combo's out there are the Canon R5/100-500 and the Sony A1/200-600. The Z8 really needs a 200-600 fixed length zoom like the Sony 200-600 and The Om Systems/150-400. The Nikon 200-600 needs to be F 5.6/6.3 and less than $2000 and better weigh no more than the 4.65# of the Sony.

Both the Canon and Sony zooms are often paired with a 1.4TC that stays permanently attached to provide the reach that most amateur photographers so a 200-600 with a built in 1.4TC at about 5# and $2500 would be ideal. (The OM-1 150-400 has a built-in 1.2TC).

As I do a lot of macro an around 200mm 1:1 macro - that ideally accepts S mount TC's.

Second wish - Canon look likely to release a 200-500 f2.8 within 12 months - and Nikon withdrew their 180-300 f2.8 from the old imaging.nikon.com website.
I would like one from Nikon to replace my 180-400 f4. Whether the price will be practical from my perspective is another topic.

Agreed but I would like to see what the 135 and 35 are to be and their pricing.

Ultra bright 20mm, 14mm and 105mm are missing as is the awesome nikon 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5e ed.

ON the "crazy" end of the scale I wonder what Nikkor could do with a Z 200/2.0, Z 300/2.8 and Z 120-300MM F/2.8 all VR and super-S-line pro-lenses with prices to match

The rumored 200-500 is an f/4 not f/2.8. F/2.8 would be huge and heavy lens even with modern lens designs as you can never cheat on that front element size.

Remember the last time someone made a 200-500/2.8? 😁

My list:
200mm f4 macro with tripod collar mount
300mm f4 pf that focuses close. Maybe f3.5 if weight and size does not increase too much.
600mm pf, f5.6
70-200mm f4 unless the 24-200mm f4 already serves thiss need.

While I have the 300mm f2.8 its weight and longer focusing distance are negatives that may prevent it from ever being made again especially since there is a 400mm f2.8.
