Yes, I meant to say Z600 f6.3. Sorry about that.I am guessing you have a typo since the only Z600's are the Z600 f/6.3 and the Z600 f/4 TC ?

no problem just did not want to confuse those that might see this and not know the Z lensesYes, I meant to say Z600 f6.3. Sorry about that.
Thank youAsking if it "would expose properly" is a weird question. You can make the camera expose properly, but it'll be at a higher iso/longer shutter speed/etc than a faster lens. I don't think it's an ideal lens for wildlife, much less times when it's darker and you need all the light you can get.
Hi David you have never said what camera or camera's you are using? That can have an significant impact on what lenses.I am considering purchasing the Z 28-400 lens. If you own one or have any information on this lens, Please Post. I am concerned how the f/4-8 works and worried about the quality of this lens sense it is only $1300.00 retail price.
Where will you be? I was at Zimanga at the night blind and there were some lights. The pool was relatively small so the longest lens I used was a 200 2.8. I would think a faster lens would be better even with some side lighting. Def on a tripod. Hope this helps.I am planning a trip to Africa and I need a light weight do all lens ie 24 X 400. I will be doing night photography from a blind shooting through optical glass. I am concerned about the variable f stop of f4-8. Would a shot at 400mm at f8 expose properly? I am also concerned about the pricing. This lens list for about $1300 and all my other nikor lenses are at least $2000. This would be animal photography including birds. Thanks for your info!!!
I'm using a Z8Hi David you have never said what camera or camera's you are using? That can have an significant impact on what lenses.
Zimanga is where I'm going. This is great information about the 200mm being enough!!!Where will you be? I was at Zimanga at the night blind and there were some lights. With my Z9 or your Z8 the 28-400 would not be a bad choice but not my first choice. If you were using a Z6III it would be a signficantly better choice for your trip. If I was going to use my Z9's or your Z8 in the setting in the night blind described above I would probably be using my Tamron Z mount 35-150 f/2-2.8 on one Z9 and my long lens would be my Tamron z mount 150-500 on my other, and if I had space weight limit wise my 3rd choice my Z600 f/6.3 and probably on my Z6III.I'm using a Z8

If I was spending the time and money to go to Africa again I would also consider renting or maybe buying a Z400 f/2.8 TC to use with a Z24-120 f/4, and/or the Tamron Z mount 35-150 f/2-2.8. I would also take all 3 bodies if weight limits and space allowed 2 Z9's and Z6III.
