Nikon 500mm F4 diafragma makes “noise” at F4 till F5.6

Yesterday I was out to do some shorebird photography with by beloved Nikon 500mm F4.
during this session I heard a noise when I opened the diafragma from F8 to F4, after some testing I came to the conclusion that a soft noise appears in the switching from F5.6 till F4 and vice versa. every switch from F5.6 to Fxx and vice versa —> no noise at all.

I am quite confinced it has never been there but when this noise is a constant factor as described I start to question myself if I am mistaken.

I tried it on the Z9 and the Z6II, both the same result.

does anybody of you recognize this? If so does it mean the lens is broken (stupid question 🥶)?

All lenses needs cleaning and oiling -- superteles more than the rest.
So you should find out who does this near you -- if you are in London UK then it is Fixation in Vauxhall.
Otherwise it can get to a point that you could burn out the AF motor -- as I did on my 300/2.8G VRII
