Nikon Sale - some new lowest ever prices

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

"I will not buy the 600PF. I will not buy the 600PF. I will not buy the 600PF."

In other news, I'll be picking mine up from the local shop on Saturday - resistance was clearly futile...
As Alan stated, only difference is the 600 TC.
"I will not buy the 600TC. I will not buy the 600TC. I will not buy the 600TC."
Mine was ordered Monday and arrived Thursday from B&H.
Only problem is now my wife wants one!😭😳🥲

BH sent an email, and well personally, I didn't expect Nikon to re-up their sale so quickly. And some lenses lower prices than ever before. A non-comprehensive list, but ones that could be of interest to the group:

100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 $2300 - $500 off - first big sale of this lens
400mm f/4.5 $2800 - $450 off
600mm f/6.3 $3800 - $1k off
600mm f/4 $14000 - $1500 off
800mm f/6.3 $5500 - $1k off

I didn't get the 600mm f/6.3 before...will I now? 😎

If you buy be sure to use Steve's BH affliate link!

Cheers!
Grab that 400 4.5 just amazing

Damn, now you've got me rethinking the whole thing! 9.2 inches long? Just under 10 inches with the 1.4 TC......
If your going to use the 1.4TC with the 400 f4.5 often, then just go for the 600Pf.. it's $1k off right now. The 600pf outperforms the 400 with 1.4TC by quite a margin if you need 600mm, while still being small and light. Good luck

For me the 600PF will be the one that got away at a great sale price. I still have the 500PF F-mount so I'm sticking with "I will not buy the 600PF".
I thought the 500PF would be the one lens I kept forever. I had no intention of buying the 600PF as I already had the 180-600 and 400 4.5 + 1.4x TC. It didn’t to offer me much value on paper. I ended up ordering the 600PF and it exceeded my expectations in just about every way. Not trying to spend your money but it’s worth it, especially now that it’s on sale.

I've got to say that while the 600 TC looked tempting, my recent foray with short eared owls has reminded me that sometimes, it isn't the lens and even with the 600, I would have been shooting at ISO's of >51k

I also got the 600 pf.. based on my extensive reading in the forum, this lens seems like the best or most balance option for wild life if I want to handheld (so eliminating 180-600mm unfortunately and 800mm), and don’t care about cost (the $1000 off sealed the deal…)

I have the 400mm f/4.5 - and after trying that w/ the 1.4TC and seeing what I could get with that, I rented the 600mm f/6.3 and found that, yep, it was for me.That's when the tug started...

...and with these prices, well, ... ;-)
I have the 400 4.5 with 1.4x TC and then purchased the 600pf. After going back and forth between them at a lake I frequent, I couldn’t see much difference so I returned the 600pf. I'm sure there IS a difference, but I was always going to keep the 400 f4.5, so it wasn’t a $4000 difference in my eyes. I am also sure experiences and opinions will vary on that.

f/9 @ 560 vs f/6.3 -and- the ability to get an f/9 840mm were enough for me. I tend to find I'm either shooting around 400 -or- 600, and there are times that I'd like to get longer than 600, so... When I am going out for 600/840 shooting I'll use the 600, when 400/560 I'll take the 400mm...

The 400 f4.5 is only f6.3 with the external TC. So it’s a 560mm f6.3 vs a 600mm f6.3. The difference is 40mm, same aperture, and the 400 is a little softer on the edges. Possibly some contrast differences. But it’s not an f9.

Perhaps you meant the 400 4.5 was f9 when using the 2x TC to get you to 800? Yes, if you need to get to 800, the 600pf would be better than the 400 4.5. For me, I have the 800pf, so I was trying to get to 600 only and the 600pf didn’t offer enough improvement over the 400 4.5 and TC to justify it.

In my experience comparing the two lenses , the 600pf was sharper overall , especially from mid frame to edges (center was close). That said, the 600pf is great with the 1.4TC at 840mm... where the 400 f4.5 suffers quite a bit of image degradation with the 2x TC @ 800mm. Pick what works for you
