PHOTOGRAPHY WEBSITES

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

This is my main go-to site every morning with coffee or tea and I pop in throughout the day if I'm working at the computer. I did join Ugly Hedgehog a few years ago...I do not recommend that site to anyone unless you just want a laugh. There's a couple of people who feel that they own the site and they are overbearing, everybody else just seems to be very confused or very uninformed.
Sounds like Fred Miranda Nikon forum I left, when it went down the brandwar plughole a couple of years ago....unfortunate but the dedicated lens threads are still there.

The BCG is unique in the forum arena. I keep an eye on some prominent sites, Brad Hill, Thom Hogan, LensRentals, Photography Life, besides BCG. I use YouTube less, besides Steve's, Morten Hilmer mostly. Sometimes a first look video for an overview of a product.

I visited one forum for years - Nikon Cafe - but finally found my way here. Nikon Cafe is a nice forum but there's not as much posting there as there once was. Seems to be 'dying'. By comparison, this place is hopping and it has a mix of more experienced photographers and knowledgable folks. I feel as tho I've gained a much better understanding of the Z8/9 AF system by reading and contributing to those threads. Besides, this place is fun with a lot of good contributor's....

I belong to this forum and the Journal of Wildlife Photography (JoWP). I was a member there before I also joined BCG, and have been on it since around 2020. I find that there is not as much discussion there compared to here. At least not on the Facebook part of the group as there once was. So I'm not on there as much, anymore. It's mostly people posting photos nowadays.

Youtube: Thomas Heaton (UK landscape photographer), Brad Hill (Canadian wildlife), Moose Peterson. Occasionally: Josh Jackson (street), Morten Hilmer (wildlife). On gear: Them Hogan, Lenstip, Christopher Frost, Park Cameras, Dustin Abbott

I avoid forums other than this one which is graced by the presence of adults :)
Spend all my time here as agree with what a few have said already in that I find it less argumentative than other sites.
Yes, there are times when there is a difference of opinion between the members on here, but it’s resolved amicably 99% of the time & this forum is policed very well.

BCG is the only forum I follow now. PhotoPills produces excellent how to videos and ebooks all free. Tim Grey (Grey Learning) pushes lots of content, Matt Kloskowski and Mark Denney post free info from time to time mostly on post processing. We all know Steve Perry and BCG is top notch. If I am seeking info I will usually do a You Tube search to see if any of the folks above have posted on the topic.

I interact here 99% of the time, as this is an interesting site, good photos and good info. No other FORUMS - but plenty other things for info and inspiration.
And I am always looking for something new

I do a LOT of YouTube - Mostly it is on post processing. The amount of info, tips, tricks, inspiration is endless.

Benny productions- if you want to be freaked out by skill
Jesus Ramirez
Aaron Nace Phlearn
Matt Kloskowski
Adobe Live
Photoshop Cafe
Morten Hilmer
Julieanna Cost - her workshops are WAY above average
Fototripper (landscape sitcom)

and plenty more. You can clearly see I don't own a TV
That’s Julianne Kost. Agree, excellent.

I mostly visit on-line sites when I am interested in lens or camera upgrades or articles on wildlife photography techniques. Outside of this group, I have come to avoid the other forums. Many strong opinions, very limited experience. The sites I visit most oftem are:

Brad Hill Nature Art Voice (his blog)
Photography Life particularly articles by Spencer Cox
Tom Hogan Z System User both the blog and reviews although my conclusions often differ.

I typically avoid YouTube because it consumes so much time compared to the useful information, except for Steve's videos. I especially enjoy the new short format videos.

I would love to find forums or sources on posst processing. It seems to be evolving much faster than cameras and lenses right now.

This is the only forum I use. Generally check in every Sunday morning over a cup of tea and catch up on the week past.. I use you tube to research any equipment I want to buy; I have ordered the Leica Q3 and the Mathphotographer channel drills down on all the menus which is brilliant..

see my post #6 for some photoshop YouTube channels

Tom Hogan, Photography Life (mainly Spencer now), and have enjoyed Dave Morrow Photography for landscape tips and great scenery

This is my photography web site list.

You can only see EXIF info for this image if you are logged in.

Steve Perry for coal face reviews and educational tutorials, informative short sharp accurate, above all real world practical information and relatable.
Cambridge Colour for a wide variety of information on photography, THERE NOT INTO GEAR REVIEWS, just photography.
Ken Rockwell yes For a quick sharp short snap shot on an item, he says a lot in no time flat. If he says its OK then its worth spending more time on it, otherwise i pass things by.

I was into 500px.com pretty deeply a few years ago, my account is still active. The downside is you really have to create a following to get good scores the comments are nice, but not very constructive, for that you have to read between the lines. I learned a lot about the art of photography and came to appreciate good photography. I feel my time was pretty well spent. Now BCG is my my main place to learn.

Thanks to the OP for this question. An excellent opportunity for my second post! Obviously this site is one, but I frequent all of Thom Hogan's sites, DP Review (that lives on), Fred Miranda, Nikon Rumors, Sony Alpha Rumors and recently Peta Pixel due to their free agent acquisition of Chris and Jordan ...

BCG and some guy named Steve Perry, Trond Westby, Steve Matheis, Mike Lane, Simon Eardley, Allan Walls, Espen Heland, Simon d'Entremont, Duade Paton, Morton Hilmer, and occasionally others -- but the first five are my favorites for various reasons.

I was on 500 PX for a while i find that people are often to nice and polite and say, well done, great shot, Love it, and all that stuff, when A) its true, or B) when its crap, so one doesn't learn from anything, we get it in our club often and we discourage it, we ask people to be open blunt but constructive, sadly on line that doesn't get you likes, or followers if you speak your mind respectfully.

Only an opinion

I agree with you, before 500px for there was Photosig (they went off line several years ago) , the people there were very honest in telling what they like and dislike. It was a great learning experience for me though, sometimes, not too enjoyable. Sadly we all can't all accept honest constructive criticism, especially from those we feel know less than we know, although it could be a learning experience if we let it.
