Replacement foot for the Nikon Z 400mm f/4.5 - any experiences, recommendations?

I just watched Steve Mattheis’ latest video and he is using a Kirk foot on his 100-400mm lens. He showed how easy it is to pop it on and off, which I thought would be an advantage.
An advantage unless it happens accidentally and your lens or camera hits the ground. Since I often carry my lens by the foot (either on my Black Rapid Strap or tripod), I rather not have to worry about it.

I witnessed first hand the Nikon foot detach from the lens whilst on a workshop; another particant was carrying thier camera by the lens foot, next second the camera and lens crashed to the ground causing damage to the flash shoe on the camera. Since then I have used the Hejnar replacement feet which screw into the lens and are not going to detach by accident. I have a Kirk replacement foot on my 500PF which has a screw quick release and I am concerned it could suffer the same way as the default Nikon feet. I am looking to sell the 500 else I would buy a Hejnar version for my 500 as well.

Oof, yeah, the 400 uses that same detachment screw and button as the 500PF. I don’t carry my lenses by the foot, so am not as worried about this, but having a Hejnar (or RRS, Haoge, etc) negates that possibility.

With the 400, since I shoot hand held 100% of the time, I have kept the Nikon foot, and it feels soft and silky in hand. No complaints about it, just need to be careful about not over-tightening it.

It seems that there are a number of available replacement feet for the Nikon Z mount 400mm f/4.5 lens: Haoge, Leofoto, Wimberley, Kirk. Looking for experiences with any of them and recommendations. Thanks in advance.
The Kirk seems good.
The one supplied is as bad as the one on my 70-200mm Z lens - it unexpectantly came apart and left the tripod damaging my Z9 lens mount.
Get one with a secure lock and hopefully with Arca swiss built in ... 🦘

So, I ended up getting a Hejnar foot for the 400 4.5, as I want to switch to to using QD socket rings w/ the Peak Design strap, like I do on my 800PF. Turns out that Hejnar now has a low-profile option, so that’s what I went with:

I'm linking this thread to a current one regarding a replacement foot (that one is for the 70-200mm and 100-400mm but they all take the same foot design).

My main adds there were questions about adding Z TCs because those change the balance points.

I have the kirk replacement foot on my 70-200mm f/2.8E but am not crazy about it - the knob, which I virtually never use, is much in the way for me.

The Hejnar here for the 400mm f/4.5 looks ok, but I'm pretty sure it does not extend far enough back when the TC 2x is on to balance the rig on a gimbal - I'm using a kirk plate from my 200-500mm and slide it waaay back to get balance (but can do it).

Wimberly. Very stolid. Screws on so no longer any chance of dropping the lens by inadvertently hitting the release button. The foot is closer to the lens so not room for you fingers to wrap around it but that has not been a problem for me.

I have in the past used just about all the different brand replacement Collars and feet for various Nikon Lenses. I currently have the Kirk replacement foot on my Z 100-400. They are extreemly well made and IMHO the best bang for the buck.

I also use the Kirk LP-70. I see no point in spending more for the RRS.
I started buying RRS gear when Bryan was just getting started and I found his stuff to be a decent value. Now they are just overpriced compared to Kirk (IMO).

Another vote for Hejnar. On my various Z and F mount lenses, I have RRS, Kirk, and Hejnar. All are great quality. I prefer the Hejnar as it is a screw on connection vice the knurled knob, so potentially more secure. It is also somewhat less expensive than the others.

I have been a very happy RRS customer for 30 years. Only complaint is that sometimes it takes them a while to release renew products. But when they do, their product quality is excellent. (y)(y)(y)
