Selling/trading to MPB - turnaround time?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Wondering about the turnaround time for selling/trading gear with MPB? I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my 600mm f4 G to the E version, so along with that lens and several others that I wasn't using, I got a quote I could live with. So Friday, 12/20, FedEx picked up four boxes of my gear. I got confirmation that MPB had received them on Monday, 12/23. I know there was Christmas Eve/Christmas Day in there, but I haven't ever received an email from them stating my gear was in their hands. Understand they maybe are closed or short staffed at this time?

Not trying to be impatient, but I'm hoping to go to Sax Zim Bog Jan. 11-12, sure would be nice to have some fast glass.

I've sold a fair number of things to MPB, but never more than one item at a time. The last time I sold to them it was five days from the day they received my camera body until I received their offer (they raised their initial offer) and payment was sent the next day.

I generally get a notification of payment or shipping within about 3 days of them receiving.
You might drop an email to them. You should be fine getting your gear by the 11 th.

Yeah, I think I'll send them an email. Just a little weird not to hear back yet.

I suppose with the holidays, things are running behind. And I did send quite a few things all at once: about six lenses, three teleconverters, a backpack...maybe they're still unpacking everything!

Was the confirmation that MPB had received them from FedEx or MPB?

I sold a lot of stuff to them as I transitioned from DSLR and f mount glass to all Z gear. I usually got a we have delivered it email, if I had requested it from FedEx first.

Then depending on the time of day and day of the week it is usually later that day, if fedex e mail was am on normal business day, that I get the we have your gear email from MPB and it will be evaluated as soon as possible and sometimes with an estimate of when and it was usually done in 1 or 2 business days. Longest times were for shipments of a lot of gear.

If fedex delivered late in the day then I got the mpb e mail the next day unless that day was a weekend or holiday.

If fed ex delivered on a Weekend then it would be the following business day (sometimes a 3 day weekend was involved) before I would get the MPB e mail that they had my gear and that they would contact me when the gear had been evaluated.

So yes Christmas, Hanukkah etc. all in there but I would have expected you would have had that first e mail from MPB by now so yes a call or e mail is in order tomorrow.

The only confirmation I received was by checking the FedEx tracking numbers, all of which showed delivered on 12/23 at 1:07pm. I still have not received an email from MPB letting me know the packages have been delivered.

Odd thing is, I just checked my account at MPB and it's still showing as "Your collection is scheduled. We're looking forward to receiving your kit soon. We'll let you know when it arrives safely." Sounds like a phone call tomorrow is definitely in order.

So you did not get an e mail from FedEx with proof of delivery ie. received by x at x time? Or did you go deeper into the tracking numbers on your fed ex account and find that same information?

Hi Mike,

This past summer I sold all my Fuji gear to MPB to fund a Z8 and several lenses.

I shipped three boxes of gear via Fed-Ex on July 19.
They arrived at MPB on July 23/24.
I was paid on July 26.

They are great to work with so I am sure things will go well. Holidays do tend to stretch things out...

Cheers,
David

No, no email from FedEx, I just searched the tracking numbers on their website and all four showed delivered.

Thanks David, I'm sure all will go well in the end, probably just the holidays as you and others have suggested. Glad your experience went well!

I have seen the simple tracking number data say it had been delivered in the past but it had not been delivered to the correct location.

If you have a FedEx account you should be able to go there and go into details and get proof of delivery.

I am OCD so I always request tracking info e mails from FedEX and UPS. Only once have I needed to share their e mail with the recipient to let them know who FedEx had shown as receiving it. In that rare case it helped the receiving company track it down. Good luck with your search.

I sold two lenses last summer and it went quickly and smoothly. Assuming you give them a bank routing number for deposit, the money gets there soon. As you say they may be closed or short staffed for week of Christmas to New Year, but I should think you will have payment within a week.

I had an online quote from MPB, shipped on Wed 11/27, arrived at MPB on Mon 12/2, received an email from MPB on Mon 12/2 that package had arrived, received email from MPB on Thur 12/5 saying that equipment had been checked and they were ready to pay, gave my payment details to MPB on Thur 12/5, received email from MPB on Fri 12/6 that I had been paid, payment was in my account on Monday 12/9.

I used MPB for the first time a couple of months ago, must admit to being a bit nervous but I have a couple of friends who used them many times without issue. FWIW I found them very good to deal with, kept me informed every step of the way. They sent confirmation of receipt of the gear, the inspection was carried out within 24 hrs and money transferred very shortly afterwards. For once their initial offer was actually increased which was a nice surprise.

Would have no hesitation in using again.
