A couple of Dark Eyed Junco shots from this morning. Shot the first with the 200-400mm f/4 plus the TC-14e iii and the second with the 600mm f/4 E FL. Shot from the same tripod and they're on the same perch (slightly different positions along the log) but I was reminded how much I like that wide open f/4 aperture for subject isolation and background blur. Both are plenty sharp enough for my tastes but the background difference is striking.

It's spring Down Under and the male Superb Fairywren is dressed up in his breeding togs.
He can go in and out of these several times a year.
The Grey Fantail takes insects in the air.
I was wondering when these Yellow-faced Honeyeaters would come back to the little mountain town and then all of a sudden they were everywhere.

Haven't seen any Pine Siskins around much this past year but this morning there must have been thirty of them at our feeders. This one hopped up on one of my favorite perches and I captured a few images:

It's funny how I can take a picture of a Black-capped Chickadee that looks like it is deep in thought and resting casually on a branch when in fact the bird sat on the branch for less than a second.
