Some of my favorite Alligator photos I've taken through the years ( feel free to add yours )

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Thank you.

Thanks Marsha

Thanks Ken, If you ever get to South Florida, I'll help you find some.
Thank you. There was a place in Idaho years ago called "Miracle Hot Springs" no relation, near where I lived that raised alligators and exported them form their meat and hides.

The first non captive alligator I ever saw was in the middle of a road at night on the Florida/Georgia Border. That was before my photography days and pre cell phone :) I was on my first trip to visit a distributor for the small farm machinery manufacturing company I was the new sales manager for. The distributor was in Waycross, Goergia and I flew into Jacksonville and was driving North past the Okefenokee when the headlights hit a very big gator laying in the middle of the road. I screeched to a halt. The gator just laid there soaking up the warmth from the asphalt. I found a way to drive around it on the far side of the other lane and headed to Waycross.

I have a semi retired pro photographer cousin, Jerry Smith, who lives in Fort Meyers. Someday I may break down and come see friends, relatives and birds in Florida with a camera in hand this time.

Great story Ken

Very nice photos, you have simply shown that you dont need expensive or exotic gear if you know what your doing, excellent composition thank you for sharing.
Yup ... my wife and I both have a lot of images on walls taken with Tamron 100-400 and 150-600 G2

Wow the D7200 has delivered, some of my best money shots have come from my D7100 LOL.

Notice the D7200 Animal detect and eye lock on tracking really sticks LOL.

Very nice photos, love the colors, the creatures really use stealth to hunt in their environment that camouflages their presence.
Great moments, enjoyed the show.

Freddie Mercury in 1986 at his outrageous drag party in Berlin, all present had to dress in outrageous costumes, he had his personal photographer attend who also had to dress up LOL.

His photographer simply used a very rough scratched up looking Minolta Konica small film camera which seemed to be brass body mostly, i assume as it didn't have IBIS LOL, it had 40mm F2 pan cake style lens with a square hood, which he said, "I took all of Freddie's photos over the years with just this one camera and lens, I moved in an out as I needed to, indoors out doors lower light conditions". He did use flash as well.

Now to me all the photos were amazingly clean sharp colorful and all with sharp eyes, even people who wore masks had sharp eyes.

Time light and speed was all you needed which basically hasn't really changed even today, i feel if you know what your doing you can get perfect results with any camera and lens in nearly all conditions.

He later used a D2X, D4 .......................in later years.

Only an opinion

I agree totally

Irap- Your website portfolio is magnificent. I have relatives and friends in the WPB-Treasure Coast area whom I visit. Where can I see the cats? Any recommended tours? Thanks! MJ
Thanks Marsha.
The alligators are easy to find, I heard that their are more alligators then people living in Florida, I’m not sure if it’s true. The Bobcats are harder to come by. You have to be out there shooting a lot and be in the right place at the right time. Next time you’re in the WPB, get in touch with me and I’ll tell you about my favorite places to shoot and maybe meet at one of them.
