Z 400pf coming soon!

I find it odd that the 400mm f 4.5 is not identified as a "Pf" lens... true?
I don’t find it odd if Nikon is trying to normalize the use of PF glass going forward and we start to see more of it used to varying degrees in the future. Nikon used to badge lenses that had a nano crystal coat and they don’t bother with that anymore.

The length of this 400 S confirms it's close to the F-mount patent for a 400 f5.6 PF. Reduced OL of a telephoto is the primary benefit of the phase-fresnel design.

NR stated "...new 400mm Z lens will be very compact as you can see from the latest roadmap above: 23cm in length, and 1,250g in weight – almost the same size as the Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 (21,98cm, 1,360g) and Nikkor Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 (22.2cm, 1,435g) lenses...."
1250g is midway between 750g 300 f4E PF (77mm filters) and the 1500g 500 f5.6E PF (95mm). This 400 S also uses 95mm filters.

And when it arrives, 95-99% of those who get it won't learn how to really use it to the fullest, if hardly any at all.
Nailed it. I really wanted the F 200-500. But it was about 18 months, 18!! before I took it on an expedition and really got 100% out of it. I’d love this 400mm but only because I’m a gear head … 🫣

I know exactly where I will be using the 400 f/4.5. The umpire was correct when he said, "You're out"

I also am continuously intrigued by Nikon's new gear, and end up with a chronic case of NAS. I have to quit this habit, because If I don't, I'll never be able to retire.

Even so, I keep telling myself that another lens sure would be handy... o_O
