Z9 Performance with Existing Glass

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Not much has changed since the film era, when overall featuresets are compared objectively across the cameras. Technology is levelling off. Networking in the smartphone universe is probably the main frontier left (at least for image makers seeking to share images swiftly, simply).

Performance has matured for most genres. There's little overall differences between flagship cameras across the main Systems. What matters most in the hand is Haptics, and in the outdoors, Weathersealing matters rather a lot, if you shoot wildlife and landscape subjects.

The comparative options in the Lens Systems in matter in imaging quality and also Weight, for most photographers.

Keep the Lenses, change the Bodies....

It's simple really,

Thom has perfect framing at all times so he throws away the 30MP from the A1 that he doesn't need.
He also has perfect sense of timing and hits the trigger at the right time every time so he throws away the 16 fps that are wasted with the A1
His own brilliance illuminates the room so he doesn't need silent strobe sync at 1/200s because he doesn't need a strobe
His thumb has been trained by Chinese Monks and is so fast that he can do real-time tracking of the subject's eye better than the algorithm of the A1

Thom is really the Chuck Norris of photography - I am surprised you didn't know that 🤣
I learned a long time ago not to read and believe a single source for anything…including photography. Thom's got some nice perspectives, as does Steve, as does Hudson Henry, as do many others. So…one should read them all and sort of average things out…for instance, Hudson thinks that the AF on the second generation Zs works just fine. It might not work as seamlessly and consistent as the A1 does…but he finds it perfectly acceptable and a lot cheaper.
