Is there any difference between the ending size of a file if a photo starts out as a lossless compressed file vs an HE* file, post processing occurs, and then the end result is saved as a JPEG? Would the saved JPEGs be the same size or does the increased file size follow the file to the end?

The JPG file size is independent of starting with a HE* file or a compressed NEF file.
