Helpful thread. In the past year, I've gotten into the habit of using a UPS mailbox for my lens/gear deliveries, and when buying from KEH, having them send it for customer pickup to the local Fedex Office. Never had an issue, and it totally solves for porch pirates, lack of signature, missed deliveries, etc. The UPS mailbox costs extra, but KEH delivery to a Fedex Office is a free option. Something to consider.

I purchased a non-photo item a year ago that was "lost" at a local Fedex distribution center (the last stop before delivery). The vendor sent another, and instead of investigating, said they would add it to an ongoing 'tab' with Fedex for credit to their corporate account. I was shocked that they would just regard this as a cost of doing business, vs a violation that should be investigated. Losses due to Fedex theft seem to be regarded in a similar way to retail "shrink" (i.e., shoplifting) - a cost of doing business in today's world.

Reliable, theft-free delivery to our homes may not be a realistic paradigm in our world going forward.

It happens often and not necessarily theft but it can take months to resolve with the shipper. They handled it properly to provide you their customer with the best experience. Your post would be very different if they made you wait the months it takes for a shipper to resolve while you waited out of money and no product.

David, I couldn't agree more, the vendor made it right with no hassle for me. I was very fortunate!

The vendor seemed sure it was theft at the distribution center (apparently it happens often enough for them) - small, high value package went in, and never came out. My main point was that this seems to be increasingly regarded as a cost of doing business. Thank goodness the best retail sellers take the loss and make it easy on the customer. In the end, I'm sure all of us end up paying for it...the retailer isn't a charity, and the growing costs are likely reflected in their pricing.

Theft's always been a problem in any business where there's an opportunity for an employee to steal something that's of value or something they want. From timber theft to hospital employees stealing drugs to someone in a manufacturing plant taking tools or product to bank employees stealing money. Theft is nothing new, but we're all buying more stuff on-line so theft in the delivery process is more obvious. When we purchased our camera gear from a local store we never noticed the theft in their delivery process but it was there nonetheless.

Posting on DPReview could definitely increase visibility for your issue, especially if Henry from B&H is active there. His involvement could help address the problem effectively. best gyro
You can just call B&H and ask for Henry Posner. He's not hard to reach and you don't need to use social media to reach him. Henry does a really nice job and is helpful. Of course, if the problem is with FedEx there is only so much he can do.
