Great idea for a thread, I purchased my farm 10 years ago with dark sky locations in mind here in the foothills of the Ozarks. ended up with a Bortle 2.5 to 3 location.

a few Milky Way shots, these are single exposure, not stacked, not tracked, post work in Nikon NX. I do take stacked shots, track, etc, but sometimes the simple ways work too.

D3s and 14-24mm f2.8 Iso 3200 25 seconds on the first, 20 on the BW Milky Way conversion.

I got into night photography last year (10 yr bird photographer) . I love your images and this thread. I have this on the wall as a 3ft metal print. Ten image Starry Landscape Stacker for MW, and ENDLESS messing around trying to paint the foreground with a useless torch. I have recently purchased a Lumecube Mini Panel and can not wait to get out of our current Covid lockdown to try it out.

I think light painting, particularly with a flashlight involves a whole new set of issues, but with great effect. I also just secured a couple Lumecube mini’s. Results shown in a couple of my shots further above. I really like your shot though!

Here’s another shot from a week ago at the farm house location. I’ll have to look it up (if any interest) but I think this was the result of about 65 stacked, 5 second exposures, using Sequator. Over baked on the processing, although I didn’t apply much in PhotoLab 3, must the stacking & processing really pronounced the nasty fringe in the lower left corner.

Thanks Bill! I only joined today, but in going through the topics I jumped right in and made a few comments - SO many items on topics that interested me. What a great site! My Lumcube Mini Panel with the diffuser and set to only 1%, lit up my whole backyard with a 15 sec exposure at 3,200 ISO. I will be able to shoot night foregrounds at much lower ISOs. I can't wait to get out there after Covid lockdown.

I know the general area. Being in Kansas, I’m more familiar with SW Missouri. Just came up through central Arkansas ozarks this past weekend. Love the entire area, but it does get HOT & MUGGY in the summer. Again, great pictures!

Yep, SE MO is our area. Muggy, heck, that is In all states around us As you know well. Lol.
 
I went back and looked at a series from July 25 2019 at the Stonehenge War Memorial at Maryhill. Very new to night photography then, I drove 3 hours not sure how would look. Met some light painters and had a blast.
I decided to give this one the denoise treatment and adjust the contrast a touch. It did clean up the noise a bunch but not sure how I feel about it. Good memory
Saturn to the left and Jupiter to the right of the galactic mid plane. A nice display

Awesome image with great foreground interest Hut! Great detail in the galactic core and just enough light painting without being over the top. Nicely done and pretty incredible for just getting going with night shots!

Thank you, I always liked going to the Gorge anyway so that was one of my first attempts at including something like this. I got lucky and met some awesome light painters that night by chance. I will follow up with a link if interested. I have several different views this being the most subtle.

I do realize that most people don’t get very excited about seeing a photo of the core everyday. But not me I get excited every time I see it on the lcd and the boring moon also. 🙂

Here is a link to one of the light painters. There is a photo of the Stonehenge monument at top of page from that night. It was taken with his drone as his partners were in the memorial shining a flashlight through color gel filters.

Hopefully it is ok to post a few more photos, I know I am veering off course a little bit.
These are a couple single shots of the Memorial while the lightpainters were doing their thing. Then they stopped and asked if I would like them to light the front and I took the original one I posted as he quickly shined a powerful light across the face for me.
Also a shot of the location at sunset. Gooberdoo doggo and I had fun. :cool:

Shots taken in August in Yosemite National Park, Tuolumne Meadows area. From shore of Tenaya Lake, the top of Pothole Dome and Olmstead Point, with Michael Frye workshop. Got "smoked out" on third night! I did use Starry Landscape Stacker but can't recall which ones. Processed in LrC and PS as needed. Shot three with a D850 and two with a Z7, four with a 20mm, the tree was shot with an 18-35mm. The tree and the rocks included using a shot that was lit up to highlight the foreground or subject.

Beautiful photography. I know it is a personal preference but your Juniper and the 3 granite boulders really stand out to me. Great work.
