Shots taken in August in Yosemite National Park, Tuolumne Meadows area. From shore of Tenaya Lake, the top of Pothole Dome and Olmstead Point, with Michael Frye workshop. Got "smoked out" on third night! I did use Starry Landscape Stacker but can't recall which ones. Processed in LrC and PS as needed. Shot three with a D850 and two with a Z7, four with a 20mm, the tree was shot with an 18-35mm. The tree and the rocks included using a shot that was lit up to highlight the foreground or subject.

Wow, I agree with Hut, those are great captures. We thought we were going to be In Yosemite right about now, but with the fires we canceled out, & we heard that Yosemite was closed any way, so naturally we’re glad we didn’t go. At Flaming Gorge now, but smoky here also & dark skies aren’t cooperating & my allergies to smoke aren’t cooperating at all!

Hey everyone keep these Milky Way photos coming! These are great. As a bit of a tease, I scouted a spot on our way west this week & if all goes well should be back at location about mid next week, hoping for good results. Sky forecast looks good at this point. Keep your fingers crossed & keep the pictures coming!

A little different, no smoke in the air and the moon had set so I decided to go out back and see what happens. A little crop, dodge, burn, noise reduction, white balance, etc... Kind of an old postcard feel to it.

A few recent night shots I managed to get here in Central Washington. I have begun experimenting with low level lighting using an LED panel. I have yet to master it but it is fun trying to learn and the coyotes don't seem to mind.
The first 2 were taken with Nikon D850, Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 in the Basalt formations of Columbia Basin in Central Washington and the vertical shot was a D850, Tamron 14-24mm f/2.8 taken a few hundred feet outside our door, the sky was so detailed to naked eyes I had to grab a shot.
All were stacked using SLS to reduce noise and a quick resize in PS 2020 to post here.

Thank you, I always liked going to the Gorge anyway so that was one of my first attempts at including something like this. I got lucky and met some awesome light painters that night by chance. I will follow up with a link if interested. I have several different views this being the most subtle.

I do realize that most people don’t get very excited about seeing a photo of the core everyday. But not me I get excited every time I see it on the lcd and the boring moon also. 🙂

Hut, you are absolutely correct. My wife, who goes with me every time to shoot the Milky Way asks how many pictures of it do we need? Yet each night when we talk about going out, about an hour before we leave she checks to be sure that we’re still going out. I don’t really know if the Milky Way is actually different with each shot, but for me it’s like the first time I shot it, almost as if I’ve never seen it! I can’t explain it. Plus we just love going out under the stars, listening to the coyotes, opossums, raccoons, one night we saw a skunk, fortunately over in the field as we were driving by. Great pictures, Hut & everyone posting.

Last night I wasn't that far in the desert but there was definitely something eating dinner in the brush near my setup...lol
Always fun!
 
Here is one in the moonlight over Palouse Falls August '19. I feel like I have learned a lot since then, I need to get back over there and try again.
One of my favorite photos was done by Royce Bair at this same spot. Of course I had never heard of him at the time. He used low level LED lighting rather than moonlight.

Got out of Covid lockdown last Monday and gave my new Samyang 14mm f2.4 a run. 4x5 vertical images using Starry Landscape Stacker. Tripod, mirror up, remote shutter. 13 secs, f2.4, ISO 6400. Photopills REALLY works!!!!

Yosemite is still closed at this point, although they did open the roads through. I live an hour and 1/2 away from the park so get this type of news as local news. Hope you have been able to miss the smoke, we have another air alert where I live. The sky has been white for weeks. Thanks for your nice comment on my shots.
