I recall an Amazon listing with the same ship date. I'm not sure if that's meant to be a placeholder for an earlier planned, but unconfirmed, ship date or if that will be the actual date.
If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I've asked them about it. Basically, they tell me that they don't want to favor any one specific type of mount over another (although Arca-Swiss is common, there are a lot of other options out there as well). I think they believe it opens a can of worms. One you put it out one way, then people using the other mounts want to know why you don't have it for their style. Plus, not every Arca-Swiss plate / QR release is identical. I've had times where one brand didn't work in a different brand's clamp. Based on the conversation, it kind of seems like they just want to stay out of it.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see an Arca-Swiss style dovetail, but I doubt it'll ever happen.
I have the 100-400 + 1.4TC and I've used it with a Z 7II and a Z 9. I've found that time to acquire focus takes a bit longer than w/o the TC attached, so I've learned to be patient. Image quality is quite good, though.Yeah, I’ve been really impressed with the results I’ve gotten from the 100-400 + 1.4TC, which I wasn’t expecting at all. Great combo for walk-around and travel.
People claim 2xTCs are useable with all sorts of lenses. Everyone has their own standards and ideas about what qualifies for "useable". For me I'm done with 2xTCs on any lens even don't like them on 400/2.8 primes. So no way I'd use one on 180-600.Interesting. I'll still need to see more rl testing, but that guy claims even with a 2x tc it's usable, which is interesting (probably not something I'll ever do, but interesting).
A quarter the size.
I use OM-1/100-400 as well as a1/200-600. There are situations where extra DOF of the OM is an advantage. Surprisingly, a well exposed image at ISO 12,800 is quite good, after Topaz. Sony a1 is better IQ but for most of the birding OM-1/100-400 is a great setup. The OM System is setup to be an ideal compact system, but there is serious considerations when using a sensor that is half the size of full frame, most notably bokeh, so while the 100-400 f/5-6.3 might equate to 200-800mm in FF magnification the f/5-6.3 does not equate, the "look" of the Oly lens would be more equivalent to a 200-800 f/10-13 on full frame when it comes to how it will render. That being said, I really like the OM System/Oly Zuiko combination especially for travel. One thing Oly got right is their feet have dovetail built in, I understand what Steve mentions above that Nikon doesn't want to alienate other mounting systems, but even with built in dovetail you still have the 1/4-20 threaded holes for other adapters, seems like a win win.

Ricci did a quick look at focusing speed in his video but not an actual measurement and really not much more than a first impression. At first glance the focusing speed looks good but I’d wait for actual measurements and comparisons to other lenses before passing judgement on AF speed.Does anyone recall if Steve mentioned the AF speed in his video or do you recall anyone else mentioning that. I recently read, I think, the 100-400 has two motors and this lens has one. I can’t recall what was said if anything about the AF speed. Thanks.
One retailer in the German speaking world has a date of 15 August on their website.

I see your point. As concerned as you are, don't buy it. Above your post they discuss the merits of the 2X - No chance in heck that I will buy that, I'll ignore it.Due to my interest in this lens I have pre-ordered it like many of you. For me, preordering is unusual as I typically never buy the first run of anything. With the exception of exotic lenses and flagship camera bodies, Nikon's QC is not perfect and truthfully I'm a little worried, especially this being a less expensive non-S lens that may be susceptible to sample variation, especially with a complex design of a zoom. I recall there were a lot of initial reports of IQ variability with the 200-500VR, for example. Does anyone else share my concerns?
I have this lens on pre-order too, and share your concerns somewhat. However, sample variation may continue to be an issue in the future, too. And you have to weigh a possible long wait if the 200-500mm is an indication (although the higher price of the 180-600, the smaller user base of the Z mount compared to the F mount, and the recent proliferation of long Z lenses may keep initial demand down perhaps). If you are really not comfortable you can wait out the first batches, and place an order based on user reports on those.Due to my interest in this lens I have pre-ordered it like many of you. In his comparison with Sony 200-600, Jan mentioned the Sony goes right from f/5.6 to f/6.3 whereas the Nikon offers f/6.0 right in the middle, not sure if that will make any practical difference but something to note.

I have. It saves a lot of weight, and smaller diameter filters. Not likely since f/5.6 to f/6.3 is only a 1/3 stop so less than that. I have never found a practical difference between f/5.6 and f/6.3
