A couple more from my local photo/dog walk area 10 min drive away from home. That's all I have time for recently. I miss the 400TC at times especially when the light is bad... but I know it was the right decision to let it go. :)

Just wondering if anybody has compared the new Z 600PF with the Nikon Z 400mm f/4.5 with 1.4 teleconverter? The latter gets you to 560mm at f6.3 so very similiar. I am undecided between the two.
Yess that test has been done, in a way. See: https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikor-z-400mm-f-4-5-vr-s/3
The 400 F4.5 with TC is very very close to the 180-600. It’s worth reading. If you have a 400 F4.5 a TC is a decent way to get close to 600. It is however not going to be at the same level as the 600PF prime. See the direct chart comparison further down the review. That doesn’t mean the 400 plus TC isn’t worth using however. The 600 PF 6.3 just has a lot more zing to it. I am very tempted by it. I own the 180-600 and I like it a lot but there is definitely something extra special about the 600 PF 6.3.

Photographylife tests also list the MTFs, which shows a 40% resolution boost with the 600pf over the 180-600. That will become clear if you crop. I can perform deep crops with the 600pf and maintain a sharp, detailed image. The excellent optics , low weight, and size are where this lense shines. It's also superb with the 1.4TC @ 840mm.

It is also about coin for me. It will be several months before I can even consider the 600 F6.3 PF. I do use my old 500G4G with the TC 1.4 at 700mm at F5.6. It has served me well for a long time. Obviously it is the weight reduction (and slightly better sharpness) which interests me. It is still 600mm but every photographer needs at least one ‘amazingly indulgent’ but superb lens in their collection. (At least that’s what I tell myself. The trouble is that other expenses seem to be soaking up all my budget for this sort of thing.).

Warbler season fast approaching. Got a little preview of it on my trip to FL a couple weeks ago, Palm and Yellow-rumped are common as pennies down there, yet when they show up here in May it's extremely exciting. Also saw Black & White, Prairie, Black-throated Green.

Too hot for birds here in Oz and too hot for hunting birds as well so, a few snaps at the zoo to keep the skill levels up.

Wonderful photos. It is a lovely bird and tricky to photograph. Great work. That is a cracker lens. Lighter lenses definitely make getting into the correct spot for the shot so much easier. That walk through aviary in Sydney is a great place for some of those tricky to see birds. Did you get shots of the Regent Honey eater too?

Thank you very much, Griffym. Much appreciated! Indeed, it is a cracking lens!

I didn't get the Regent Honeyeater this time however, I do have plenty of photos of them.

Beautiful birds, very crisp photos especially considering the low shutter speeds! Nice
Thank you very much, Maxxus46. Much appreciated!

These birds were also doing what I think was a mating ritual where the male(?) bird would bounce up and down on the branch if a female(?) came along and was near him. I had to wait until he stopped bouncing to get these shots. :)

These are amazing shots and just 10min from the house... super!

So Lance, seeing as how you own both this and the 600TC, how often are you leaving the big boy at home in favor of the PF?

It really depends on what I'm shooting and what other birds or things I may want to photograph. If it's just birds, it may just be the 600TC by itself, or the 600TC + say the 100-400. If I am going to shoot a variety of subjects and need few lenses, it will be the 600pf and those other lenses. For travel, it's the 600pf.
