Nikon Rebates?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

The original post (now deleted) claimed an authorized dealer said new rebates would start April 21 (beginning of this past week). However, according to a new post on NikonRumors, the new rebates were supposed to start April 27 (tomorrow as I type this). They admit this may no longer be the case; I guess we will find out soon enough.

Maybe I’ll buy a 600PF when I’m dead at this rate.

Rebates did indeed kick in again today (April 27). If my count is correct, 17 out of the 46 Nikon Z lenses have an instant rebate. This includes - for the first time I can recall - Plena at $200 off. 100-400 is $400 off and 70-200 is $500 off. 400 f2.8 is $1,000 off and 600 f4 is a whopping $1,500 off!

I suppose this is their last push for sales this year… lol

I should add that most (maybe all) Z camera bodies are on sale. Z9 is $500 off and if you want to enter mirrorless at high megapixel on a budget, Z7ii has an all time low price of $1,799.95.

Appreciate the update. The items I am considering do not have rebates, but it is good to know that for certain.

Thanks,

The 400 and 600 TC and Z9 are the same discounts as a few months ago. I guess they bounce in and out of this periodically. Although the Plena wasn't ever on sale that I recall until now. The Z8 is a heck of a value deal now IMO.

wow , i never expected rebates at this point .

now my wife and i are thinking selling the two nikon 28-400 we have and getting two of the 100-400mm .

thats 800 off two of the 100-400 plus no tax with payboo

BH is not the only way to get tax free. Some shops don't have to charge tax to some states just so you know.
i prefer b&h .

i used to buy from a dealer in new jersey but after a few defective items i stopped .

being a store you never know if you are getting previously handled items .

they ship from their warehouse, not a store where you have items tried and put back.

so odds of getting handled goods is greatly reduced.

never an issue with B&h .

in sept my wife and i re did all our gear ordering from b&h .

we spent 35k and not one issue with any of it

I can appreciate all of that, but I also guess it depends on the shop. There are pros and cons with each and no guarantee with your BH items that they've never been opened unless you have a personal connection who can verify.

For example I have a personal connection, the owner, of a shop where I order things through and they never get to a shelf or general stock to be looked over by anyone. They often come to me not even opened from the supplier.

Of the lenses with rebates, it looks like only the 28-75 f2.8 is manufactured in China. The rest are from Thailand or Japan, I believe. It may be on of no significance, but there are also reports of significant declines in shipping traffic from China to the US. I guess my bank account will at least be happy the 800pf will remain unpurchased, at least for now.

Thom Hogan’s comments on Nikon USA’s May rebates.

“My overall assessment is that NikonUSA basically kicked the can a little further down the road when it comes to pricing, probably to exhaust existing inventories [which existed] prior to the fiscal quarter ending.”

“I wouldn't be surprised though if any of the following were announced (or at least intimated at) at the May investor's meeting: (1) discontinuation of DSLR products (see dslrbodies for an article on that); (2) Z System repricing, particularly in the US; (3) possible discontinuation (or suspension) of some Z products (likely older bodies or China-made lenses).”

Discontinuation of China made lenses? Does he really think Nikon would discontinue the 600PF and 800PF? These are lenses that no one else has and are very popular (just look at this forum).

Tariffs of more than 100% are a difficult proposition. I've seen reports of a 145% tariff on goods made in China. If I were a potential customer for either of those lenses, I wouldn't consider buying them at that price. Hence the advice to buy now while there is inventory available in USA retail channels.

Addendum: Perhaps "suspension" is a better way to describe the possibility. I don't think there would be a permanent discontinuation.

I don't remember where I saw it on Friday, but there was announcement of sorts re the discontinuation of the D6 and 35/1.4G.

I recall reading that, too, but like you, I'm not sure where I read it. Checking the Nikon USA website, they're both still for sale and the 35 f/1.4G has a $150 rebate. That may change once existing USA inventory is sold out.

I should buy the 800pf for this reason, but at the same time it is not a need on any level. I already own the 600pf. I'm taking this as a sign from the universe that I don't need this lens right now. Ha

This does seem like a bit of an over-analysis/over-reaction.

While I'm of course concerned about where things may head, I am also inherently skeptical about "sky is falling" predictions from our favorite pundits, photographic or otherwise. Things are rarely as bad as they seem (or as good, depending on the times). My sense is fear-inducing headlines are great click-bait, as we've seen on the evening news over the decades. When did we ever see a story about "Good evening, we'd like to report things are pretty good today"? Perhaps bad news and scary predictions keep us reading our favorite news and experts' sites, commenting on their apocalyptic analyses, and clicking on their affiliate links. Guess I'm a bit of a skeptic...

If the sky does indeed fall, feel free to call me out for not heeding the warnings! :)

It's good to see some rebates back. Maybe this is a sign that gear that isn't made in China won't be as affected 🤞

Unfortunately, the few lenses I really have my eye on, such as the 800mm PF and 180-600mm do not have rebates 🤔

Personally, I just wish this whole situation had been thought out before the announcements and was rolled out in a slow enough way that businesses and consumers could adapt. Right now, people and businesses don't know if they should be buying things they might need in the next year or two, because the price might be noticeably higher in a few months, or if they may end up overbuying. Uncertainty has a lot of ripple effects.

Please tell me to NOT buy 600mm TC. Please. I have it sitting in a cart for last 3 hours ready to press button. I love my 800PF, but... Please tell me I'm wrong to dump $14K on something that is just marginally better but heavier. Please. I hate Nikon for these rebates.

I was agonizing last time Nikon did it, but this time it's much worse - we will never see this price again. Ever.
