Nikon Z8 Hot Card Warning

I use Delkin Blacks in my Z8, and I’ve had heat warnings pop up twice in a bit over a year of using this setup. The outdoor environment was quite warm both times, and I was shooting 20 fps for long bursts. Shutting the camera down for a few minutes took care of the problem.

My Sandisk CFExpress comes out of the Z8 hot sometimes. Same for the card reader, a Sony connected by USB-C cable to Macbook pro M1. More troubling, while I was importing to Lightroom a couple times the process suddenly failed and Lightroom no longer recognized the card as connected to the computer. The card reader still had a light and recognized a card was inserted however finder did not see it. When I removed the card the OS did generate messages that the card was improperly ejected. I was shooting an event at 15 fps capturing A LOT of raw images. This was probably the largest amount of data I ever attempted to review and read in at once. The card was very hot. I hope this isn't an indication of problems to come with this card, it's fairly new. Anybody else experience similar problem importing?
The cad reader issue happened to me recently in Costa Rica. About ⅓ of the way importing, the same thing happened to me EXACTLY (except it was on on MacBook Air M2). Putting the card back in the camera revealed no loss of data. I swapped out to a new reader - different brand (always carry 2 with) and everything was fine. Yes, the card was "hot" with both readers. The failed reader didn't work on my other computer at home so I assume it was the reader. It's been my experience that the readers for both QXD and CF Type B cards can be very flaky and I always test them before putting them in the bag on trips. I think if you use the same brand reader as your card, you may have a more stable system.

On the HOT card issue, I was plagued with a hot card warning on several trips in my z8. The ambient temps were very hot (Seychelles, Botswana and Costa Rica) but I never had any issue with camera function. No video. Two brands of cards were problematic including an Angelbird and a Lexar, but the Sabrent worked flawlessly.

was it an old style, yellow labeled lexar? if so, they are known to run hot

dunno when you purchased the anglebird but it sounds like early cards had some issues that were resolved via fw updates. might be worth checking to see if your card is up to date with regard to fw
